When it's time for the president to leaves office (4 yr term) and the citizens sees the good work done, that is when they vote for continuity for the party to manage the economy again for another term. Also,there should be a developmental plan for the nation whereby any president who comes into power will continue from where his predecessor,left off. The current system where an incoming president abandons all the projects of the previous president and embark on a new one is what is making the economy worst. There should be a law that any president who comes and abandons an uncompleted project has caused financial loss to the nation and therefore liable for prosecution.

The Presidential tenure of four years should be such that, we should have it split into two years, that is we should be able to conduct mid-term elections after two years into the four year tenure, so if a party before putting itself out there in seeking to govern, would come with realistic manifesto promises on what they can achieve realistically within the two years, failure to achieve those promises within the two years, during the mid-term elections they are massively booted out before they mess up further, and have such clueless Professors talking about an extension of a tenure.
You don't put in your manifesto what you cannot achieve realistically within four years, like 10 new teaching training colleges, two new international airports comparable to any other in Dubai, Singapore, US, Germany etc, etc, a steel factory when you don't have electricity, 200 new SHS's when you cannot even construct 50, etc, etc and when the masses see through the hollowness of such promises, you rig the elections by looting funds that should have gone into development and turn around and say the meat has been chewed to the bones, so the things you promised it can't be done and the tenure should be extended for the perpetuation of such nonsenseness. We should have four years with the opportunity for mid-term elections in two years time and when those realistic promises have not been fulfilled in the two years you are BOOTED OUT for sanity to be restored in the governance process.
If we had mid-term elections, the highly incompetent, theft-prone, clueless, non-thinking, visionless, inept, irresponsible Mahama NDC gov't would have been BOOTED OUT by now, before the country completely collapses.
We need mid-term elections not an extension of the presidential tenure and the failed Mahama NDC gov't needs to go like already.

The Professor should know that 1-year added to the 4 will not make any difference that is why a President can go for 2-terms if he is able to at least show the sign of competency to the electorates that given another term of 4-years good results will be achieved. With the trend of all these economic and social irresponsibility of past and present governments why should this professor in the first place conceive this nonsense of thought?

The term limit is enough for any individual who has prepared to ascend to the Presidency. Mahama with his enviable (CV) or Resume, comparing him to Chairman Rawlings, he is one of the useless President with late Egya Atta Mills coming next the country have elected. Professor the most needed is strong and workable institutions. Just look at present Legislature and Judiciary and tell the public if they are functioning or not? Please give us break.

For a developing country with financial problems, it will imply saving one election expenses once in every twenty years. There are many other benefits that can result in a five year term that time and space will allow me to explain here.

In this part of the world where our politics is full of corruption, injustices, mismanagement of the economy and some other dangerous unprintable practices, advocating for a 5 year term will only aggravate the situation. In fact that will be a fertile grounds for any under-performed and corrupt government to perpetuate themselves in government and that will be a dangerous practice. Anyway in my opinion just 1 year addition to a president's mandate will not make much difference. The presence of the serious and hardworking president can be felt right from the word go. In any case the president's mandate is renewed for another 4 year term depending on his performance and the party he represents so I dont see the fuss about the Prof's agitation at all.
