Even the weather forecast would have given the city officials more than 24 hours to keep workers and school children at home and one of the best drainage system in the world would have taken care of this problem. Houston is about ten times bigger than Accra in terms of land mass but have less people than congested and muddy Accra.

I, as an Afr Amer male (having been to Ghana a few times with up to a year's stay more than once) have been trying to get GH-Americans to network with me here in the US to REALLY uplift Ghana...in an easy fashion. NONE will work with me. Since 2007 till now I have been trying.I network with American business people/entrepreneurs weekly. I know many of various races that were poor or average income a few years back. Today, they have a bad week when they only make $10,000.If GH-Americans weren't so closed minded or inward, by now, I could have brought around 5,000 of such folks back to Ghana as a collective to make a grand impact upon Ghana as multi-millionaires.Unfortunately, Ghana folks, like most Africa-born, think an academic education is the all-in-all. It is not. a FINANCIAL EDUCATION is the key and only about 1% or 2% of folks inside the US has such.
Ghanaians online can ALWAYS knock others but when real work is at hand, none will role up their sleeves and do the work involved.

The problem with flooding in the capital and its surburbs is, and in my opinion due to negligence by past and current government after Nkrumah to address the issue. The solution is just a matter of drainage system that will connect and direct the water to the sea.The waterway in Accra is earmarked for generations, but corruption has eaten away the financial means to tackle the project. Ghanaians must be wise and think wisely.Vote for a selfless leader and a selfless party that will think of the people and national development.Vote SAMIA NKRUMAH as the next president and the CPP. Move the capital to an above sea-level city and just make Accra an airport-landing location temporarily.Once governmental wealth is built up in the new location take some of the revenue and correct the land surface of Accra by simply bring in truck loads of dirt and rock from other locations in Ghana that are more mountainous.No more flooding every year and homes, structures saved as the rains run off into the sea.

Elect me, you call "akata", as your foreigner president working side by side with your Ghana-born president and my creativity will solve many of Ghana's problems. I will reduce corruption greatly, one of all of Africa's greatest diseases,and increase local folks incomes by at least $1,000 per month easily within 3 years or less. No problem.

What has the so-called Ministry of Work and Housing being created for? If Ghana wants to be a modern country, it must first and foremost make advanced city layout taking into consideration of "artificial rivers and lakes" as well as parks to beautify the cites. Education must be given to the masses on the need of creating such drainage fcialities. National as well as Private TV staions must be showing about developments of cities in developing and developed countries let our people know the need for these in our ciuntry...

We won't do the right thing.
We wait for God/The Whiteman to advise us. We know the problems:

Accra is low lying offering rain surface water access to the sea.

We build on water ways.

We pretend there is nothing we can do about estuaries such as the Korle Lagoon being silted to the brim with human waste and daily household refuse.

We turn our gutters into rubbish dumps too.

We have refused to think and implement civil engineering solutions to our problems.

Our planning laws are not working/adhered to.

Contractors get away with shoddy works without consequences.

State Officials, mainly Civil servants collude with contractors( suppliers of services) to accept these shoddy works for a bribe or so.

We know too many somebody's. One commits a crime and because he knows a high ranking person, gets away with the crime. Most civil servants and government officials are at it.

We rather sing about the falling value of the cedi against the Dollar.

No wonder we have the problems we have now!!!!!!!

If there is no brave man like JJ to do it again, then nature has to do it. FYI, torrential, destructive rain is one. I wish the rain will destroy houses of politicians, corrupt businessmen and anybody who steals from the nation's coffers, causing the less privileged majority to suffer. IT'S HIGH TIME!!
