If Ghana is just to begin addressing this shocking situation, if it is to begin to meet the desperate educational needs of her children, and her children's children, the Ministry must be purged of the indolent and stupid parasites whom the Minister typifies.

That said, I am surprised you are unaware that the Minister was a genuine University Professor
and the former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast. She didn't type the text of the statement herself in her quality of a Minister, it is some press secretary somewhere in the ministry of Education who printed and sent the statement to the press at large. I guess you do not live in Ghana,Teacher under Tree, otherwise you wouldn't have opined the way you did about the minister in your posting.

It is so inexpressibly sad to see young Ghanaians' future permanently blighted by such incompetence, and those responsible lying, throwing dust in our eyes (as you eloquently put it), and even denying that the problem exists. All for their own petty purposes. Grotesque.
I guess the mere fact that she achieved a professorship is itself an indictment of our educational system.

Please, let us put Prof Opoku-Agyeman's statement in perspective.
She did not say that there is not a problem. What she did say was that our President has himself recognised that we need to raise standards in maths and science, so teachers in these subjects are being retrained with the help of renowned mathematical physicist, Prof Allotey, and Prof Anku Sitsofe.
In addition, books and equipment have been provided to schools, and science resource centres have been set up to support the training of teachers and teaching of maths and science.
She also pointed to the fact that other reports by reputable international organisations have actually praised Ghana's educational system and ongoing efforts to inmprove standards. She asked for people to wait for the full OECD report to be made public before commenting on our educational system.
I think hers was a measured response to all the reaction to the OECD survey report.

Ghanaians have not seen what this notorious NDC party is up to. And most of these miscreant NDC officials have their children studying abroad. That is a typical mentality of notorious NDC officials. That, let us destroy education system in Ghana and send our kids to study abroad so that they can control politics in Ghana.
Our education is completely destroyed. Don't listen to the surrogates John Mahama. They spinning to make it look better than any system. They are lying. If you don't vote these thieves out in 2016, your children have no future in this country. That is the message.

"Total education". Plus, if Mathematics and Science are not doing well. It might perhaps be partially attributed to the truncated Science programme in the early 2000. The problem did not start yesterday. It also good to do a self introspection as a country to see if we are investing our scarce resources in the right discipline in matter of education. Perhaps we are training more in the humanities than is needed, that is why the country has become a talking one and not a workimg. Instead of thinking to find solutions to our problems, we are always looking to the central government. Please, let us provide more resources to the sciences and spend less in the humanities, this way we will have many who are willing to work and the number of those in politics will reduce.

Our Administrators trained here and abroad have made just a little or no impact at all on the society. All what Ghanaian believes in it today is money,it doesn't matter where it comes from.We are really poor in Mathematics, especially in public. When you get a job,the employer does not pay you on hourly basis. The govt normally comes out every year to fix the minimum daily wages instead of fixing it on minimum hourly wages. The govt does that to avoid long mathematics and transparency. On the contrary,it affects productivity and development.Again, when you rent a room or an apartment, you are not charged by cost of a square meter. You only pay by the number of rooms which is totally wrong. We do all these things to avoid maths. The only maths we are more concerned with is when it comes to trading. As for Science,I am even not sure if we believe in it.Therefore,I am not surprised an inch.Thank you.

Also, you're talking about the first 3 top candidates, have thought about the failures as they are completely useless as far as numeracy and literacy is concerned. When almost every SHS school child is failing and millions of produced graduates walk the street simply because they are not job marketable?
Ghana education which was strong in the 60s and 70s and early part of the 80s can not be said to be the same value we have today in the country as result of consistent change of educational policies and taking away the foundation of our education from the missionary schools.
Another attribute which is yet another serious issue is, the parent control. Ghana have a lot of unemployed parents whose income effects the home training as the school going child is made to sell along the road to go sell to support the scanty economic income of the parents and the worse is the uncontrolled dumsor which add up to the worsening educational situation in the country.
Thanks to Rawlings coming into Ghana's social politics everything under NDC is crumbling and as Ghanaians its about time to own up to our backwardness and social nose diving than to cover up thinking all is alright when it is not.
