The Prof is confused and creating the impression that Ghanaians are confused. His confusion is because he refuses to accept what is in the 1992 Constitution. He wants wider consultation where there is none. He wants to be involved in appointing the next EC Chairman when he has no authority to do so. Perhaps, he wants to be appointed to the post and his name is not on the shortlist. That is why he is confused. He should carry on with his confusion and those authorised by the constitution to appoint will do so at the appropriate time.

Our political differences aside, I've always had the greatest respect for you and regard you as a very broad minded, tolerant, middle-of-the-road, consensus building, our cohesiveness rather than our divisiveness kind of guy but sometimes comments like this one are so trivial and pedestrian they make me cringe then leave a sour taste in my mouth .
In appointing a successor to outgoing US Attorney General Eric Holder, President Obama did not have to sit at a round table with Republicans to seek their advice but he made a choice in the person of Mrs Lorretta Lynch, a no blemish and well accomplished black lady and attorney as the new US Attorney General. The Senate Republicans dragged their feet over her confirmation for several weeks but finally gave her the nod to avoid further embarassment to their party because the lady is without blemish. All Ghanaians are asking of their President is to select a very competent and accomplished no blemish type of person who's not tied to the apron strings of the presidency or the NDC. Who will complain if the person who's finally chosen will do the job without fear or favor. Our democracy is far from being perfect and the president himself has not helped matters with the way he has made his appointments in the past. Competence and integrity have meant very little to him in such moments.
It's still President Mahama's constitutional right and duty to choose the next EC chairman but don't you think he'd be doing himself and the people of Ghana a lot of good if he'd step out of his comfort zone and dare to listen to what the cross section of the citizens are saying before he makes a choice? The chairmanship of the EC is too sensitive and delicate to be toyed with. Will Mahama continue his "Yentie Obia" dance and do the bidding of the hardliners of his party or will he make a choice acceptable to all stakeholders? We're watching and please tone down the rhetoric for the sake of peace.

The prof's call on us to '...agree on the framework ...' for consultations prior to the appointment of a successor to the Chairman of the EC is a tacit acknowledged that there is no such requirement under our law for if there were, the framework would have existed - this is Rule of Law: the pre existence and certainty of the laws that govern us. The law on the appointment of the said officer exists already; it is certain; it and it alone must govern the process. Qualification, under the law, does not include being a university lecturer. The appointment of the Chair to the EC is the exercise of the executive authority of the country. The executive authority of Ghana resides in the President , and in him alone. Mr. President, to consult any person howsoever described safe as you are required to, under the constitution, is to share the executive authority vested in you under the constitution with such person(s). Mr. President, don't. Are you sharing the resolution of the electricity crises with any person? What about the fixing of the economy? You're the only one taking the damns, not because you did anything wrong personally, but only because the lot had fallen on you as president to resolve those problems. Same thing here Mr. President : the lot falls on you to appoint the Chairman to the EC in consultation with the Council of State. Maintain your focus; so far you're on the right track.

Neither Man nor Government can fight corruption successfully, especially in Ghana.

The only sure way to do so therefore is to resort to the SPIRITUAL means.

All we need to do is to start fighting corruption from the top and it will transcend to everyone in the country within a few months.

How do we accomplish this?

Whenever we swear in Politicians, Board Members and Senior Management of Parastatals, or any High Level Government Officials in the Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), we should make sure as part of the oath of allegiance they swear to will include:

(1) A BLESSING to these individuals and their families if they perform genuinely and diligently as if, to quote Mr. Mahama, "such institutions they manage or oversee belong to their fathers".

(2) At the same time, there is a need to insert a section within the same oath of allegiance on bringing a CURSE to these same people and their families, and even from generation to generation if they ever amass wealth through corruption during the period of their public service.

What the Government can therefore do is to modify those oath of allegiances slightly to reflect these proposals and I can assure you that, Ghana will surpass even Singapore in her development within months and not even in years.

Take it or leave it !. Who doesn't know that this 3 categories of professionals , Teachers or Lectures,Military,and the
Police are the Worst administrators, ever.Ask any Auditor you know.He or she will tell u more(this in not to demean them and without malicious intent).A teacher thinks anyone who can read and write is capable to do any professional jobs one have no training,etc .The Military Commands
Subordinate and general office Staff, just like on the Parade Grounds,and expected Staff to "obey before complain".The Police administrative attitudes is similar to the Teacher's.
Two very good example on the above descriptions,were former leadership,
Prime Minister Dr Prof Kofi Abrefa Busia and former Pres Prof Atta Mills.
Profs should teach our Children in the Classrooms and Lectures hall,please.
What is needed is an experienced administrator endowed with boldness, honesty, and integrity.And not necessarily a Lawyer or Academia .

Just think of how he handled the NPP crises with a statement that the General Secretary, Kwabena Adjapong, should apologize to those affected. Was his opinion respected by his own party folks?
What makes him think that he can make suggestions but those publishing the names cannot make suggestion? This is the mentality of most of the NPP followers, they are elitist and think everything from the university is good. No wonder, the Minority leaders said there were no prominent and suitable Gas in NPP for the position of running mate when the bad old prof was there. Has the Electoral Commissioner of Nigeria, who is a Prof., done a quarter of what Afari Gyan has done? The level of hypocrisy in NPP is beyond understanding.

Well, I hope any list that finally comes out leaves you more angry than you can ever imagine. It's a crying shame that Professor Oquaye holds the view that only academics are better suited to hold the title of EC Chairperson. Its's not about who commands respect; it should be about which man or woman is very suited for the job. Throw away your African mentality about your PhDs, for you folks are forever driving the Entitlement Wagon.

Oquaye is no just hoping for a wider search. He is counting on the general tenor of the Academic elites in Ghana leaning against Mahama's Administration to produce someone who would be more amenable to Akufo-Addo.

It is that simple. If the wider search is all that he is looking for, he would not concede that the President only selects from the list that the Council of State offers him.

But there would be no breach of the Constitution if the President were to choose someone outside a list built by the Council and present him or her to the Council and the Council accepted that individual.

I seriously doubt that had the NPP been in Office and the NDC requested for such a digression in the process, the NPP would submit to it.
