Avram Grant: “Stars fared well against Senegal in Gyan’s absence”

Black Stars Head Coach, Avram Grant believes his side gave a good account of themselves in the absence of Captain Asamoah Gyan during the 2-1 defeat to Senegal in a friendly international on Saturday.

The 29-year-old was left out of the Black Stars 22-man squad for the double header against the Teranga Lions and Mali due to injury, but successfully recovered and came on as a substitute in Al Ain’s 1-0 Super Cup win over Al Ahli last Friday.

“We wanted to him to play what happened to him at the African Cup, he was injured and sick because of that crash with the goalkeeper (Naby Yattara) but we did well without him but I hope that he will available for the other games,” Grant said in a post match interview.

In Gyan’s absence, Jordan Ayew partnered Kwesi Appiah in attack before fellow striker Richmond Boakye Yiadom came off the bench to score the consolation goal for the Black Stars.
