The president has been saying that he tried to introduce electronic payment and acquisition systems into the public sector {to reduce human contact with cash} in his effort to fighting corruption, but lamented that the systems were often resisted.

This has become so monotonous that Ghanaians are beginning to wonder whether the president is actually serious and interested in fighting corruption as he claims, or it's just another crocodile's tears to deceive Ghanaians into believing that he is making an effort, while the government and its cronies amass billions of dollars at the expense of this struggling HIPC nation.
Why should Ghanaians hire a president that can't even introduce an electronic system successfully into the public sector to save us from criminals masquerading as civil servants? Mr. Mahama must be seen to be fighting corruption with all his might rather than go on lamenting helplessly like the rest of us who hired him to do the job.

We have been in this country when the uncompleted extension of the runway of Kumasi Regional Airport has been described by the Mahama NDC gov't as an ultra modern international airport comparable to any international airport in the US, Germany, France, UK, Holland, China, Hong Kong, etc, etc. So what does the Mahama NDC gov't means by an ultra modern Kumasi central market because Ghanaians have had it with mediocre leadership and propaganda.

Mr. Ayarega insulted non of these journalists. He told them the simple, fundamental truth that no informed, professional journalist should and will not expect a minister of state to render a detailed budget and expenditure through a radio interview. What they were doing was simply exhibiting their lack of understanding and using crude tactics to intimidate and extract information from the minister, who stood his ground to educate them on the correct procedure.

Why should a person helping someone to do the right thing rather be accused of insulting behavior? Now, it is not only these journalists who who have learnt from the minister, but the general public also know that those "powerful" journalists also have to operate within their limits.

Now, somebody tell me, I maybe wrong though, who does Sefa Kaye report to? His boss or the his audience??? Can his audience sack him if his boss says he's right???? No matter how foul his audience may fume and fuss they can't sack from his job if management thinks otherwise even though he might have erred on radio. I personally don't think the media had that right to know when the minister had not reported to his boss. Sometimes I find some of our media houses very weird in their operations. They ask questions as if they know all or are wiser than all. Even if you ask a class one pupil a question and he thinks your question is out of place he will indicate it to you. Well, next time Mr. Minister, you can swerve the question rather than sounding insulting. Know how to answer questions. After all you are not required to answer every question posed to you. Our examiners thought it wise and always write on our exam papers "you may attempt all questions " . The operative word is 'attempt ' which is not compulsory. Thanks!

So why is he interested in their earnings. he should shut up. he was going on about the fact that they refused to play for lack of their wages during the world cup - and I want to ask him 'is there anything wrong with that'? We live in a country where doctors, nurses, teachers etc all go to strike for lack of decent wages, benefits and what have you. And you are saying the footballers can not do the same what kind of market logic is that. Are they not Ghanaians just like everyone else, are they not human beings. And these journalist who have made it their cup of tea to incite people against these footballers must stop. Most of these boys by the time they reach 33 years their career has already ended and because of the training they do they will have about 40 or 50 years to live when their career has ended and because of that they should make as much money as they can whilst still playing. It will be totally unfair for a person who has the benefit of staying in the job till about 65 years to create an atmosphere that will make later life difficult for these boys. The NMC, the GIBA and the GJA should take this matter up and ensure that Mahama Ayariga renders an unqualified apology to the media fraternity and the good people of Ghana.
The road to press freedom has been a long fought and hard journey, from the time Mahama Ayariga's PNDC gov't was in power as a militaristic treasonous entity where the culture of silence prevailed and impunity and wantonness of the governance process held sway.
Ghana has moved past that culture of silence a long time ago thanks to bold and fearless visionaries who saw the PNDC's militaristic fatwa on press freedom and the subjection of the governing to the transparency and accountability measures.
Mahama Ayariga is gaining notoriety as one who believes that the pursuit of accountability and transparency, two critical factors to good governance and effective leadership and an engaged and informed citizenry is something that imminently threatens his status as a supposed "public servant" and ultimately sees the media fraternity as a sworn enemy in this engagement.
This avowed position of Mahama Ayariga to bastardize the media which serves as the interface between the citizenry and the political class in seeking to entrench the principles of accountability, transparency, good governance and effective leadership cannot be acceptable and cannot be countenanced.
This arrogance of power and pure disrespect for taxpaying Ghanaians demanding accountability of their funds cannot be made to stand.
It is imperative the NMC, GIBA and the GJA ensures Mahama Ayariga abandons any such characteristics by apologizing to Ghanaians and the media, failure of which prompt resignation of his person should be demanded.
Public service is one for the promotion of the greater public good and not the self-serving interests of the few.
