The only rationale conclusion one can draw from the present crises in the face of falling crude prices is a reduction in electricity generation capacity in the country. If this is so then what could have possibly led to this? Two explanations readily come to mind. The first being a fall in the water level of the Akosombo Dam or failure of the existing thermal plants.

One thing though is crystal clear; the current administration has failed to provide the needed explanation.

Cities and towns with electricities in those days were not growing faster as we have today ok.So the Rawllings 19yrs. in power ,they should have known that the demographic growth of the country was ranning faster so we are going to get more mouths to feed and more homes will be needed so to cope with that challange we will need additional POWER GENERATING PLANTS.FAILURE TO THINK THAT WAY .THAT IS WHAT WE ARE SEEING NOW. It's true that Rawlins would be credited for the extension of electricity to rural areas and at the same time not doing enough to add to the existing power generation . What about the eight years rule of Kufour ? How many MGW did he add to the national grid ?In the first place he should not have gone to waste money to construct the Bui dam that depends on nature .You see how short sighted our leaders are when they know well hydro power cannot be relied having known the problem we have year after year because of erratic rainfall will never have invested in the Bui dam . Mr Maxfrance, do you see why you're narrow minded? That money wasted by NPP to start the useless dam which of course was completed by NDC could have bought similar ships that are being brought from Austria .If the NDC had not completed the useless Bui dam the opposition would have said that's the cause of the dumsor .How many MGW do we currently get from the Bui ,it's economically not viable .

If the government of the day have come out with optional power supply just to aid the dieing industries, some people with their political bias will blame the government for taking such decision just because it is not their political parties that brought the idea. I think such character is a sign of stupidity. Support the government when it's taking the right decision, criticise it when it takes the wrong decision, but in all have the betterment of Ghana in mind. Most of these leaders know that, all Ghanaians can do is just to talk but won't work. Ghana is a rich country to some people. They come and take what you people say don't exist and they make money out of it and that's why you have many foreigners in the country, citizens are there complaining. Talk to the Chinese and they will tell you how stupid Ghanaians are. Sorry.

The answer to this question is very simple: under capacity.

In perspective: Akosombo was not built to support the present level of population grow, and socio-economic development of our beloved Great Ghana. At the time Akosombo was built the population of Ghana was under 8 million.

The unanticipated rapid population, and socio-economic grows have led to unanticipated spike in the usage of energy. Hence is the simple explanation for the power problem facing our country today.

Nobody is to blame. Hind-sight is always 20/20, -- but never realistic.

What we need today to arrest our energy problem: is a long term energy policy, -- devoid of party-politics.

We must endeavour to guard against quick-fixes, that are short on scale economics.

May Lord Almighty continue to bless our beloved Great Ghana:

Its quite ridiculous to read such an appalling article lauding the mediocre effort of the government to reach out to a country like Turkey (not the U.S., not Germany, not Japan, not the UK). Where the hell are all the monies being generated from excessive import duties, taxes, tariffs, grants from international financial institution being spent? What really amazes me is the fact that there are well-educated folks within the leadership hierarchy of the Ghanaian government like the Ahwois who attended Harvard yet the government make decisions like a bunch of Middle school leavers trying to find their footing in the corridors of power. If the government is well intentioned to resolve the Dumsor problem, it better go all out to seek help from countries that have succssfully made lack of power supply non existent in their country.
