  Caning is the best discipline and let us not copy the west and repeat their mistakes,they are considering revisiting caning and its a fact that Germans especially and many American families cane their kids but it becomes abuse when its used indiscriminately by teachers who vent personal frustrations on poor kids.I was victim to these acts even in secondary school.Some public schools still have sick teachers who cane students for not paying extra classes fees. THE BEST TRAINING FOR US

  I've been teaching in the USA for over 20 years and still counting. Corporal punishment is child abuse whether it's done in school or at home. No American student will tolerate any physical contact by a teacher or any adult. They will fight back ferociously because they understand their basic human rights and they know how to defend them. They will f--- you up if touch any them. Let's not return to the barbaric strategy of canning, it's not part of pedagogy. Ghanaian students will riot if they are abused by their teachers. Teachers are employed to deliver instruction and not to abuse our children.

That is not fair on your part. You need to rethink. There are criminals incarcerated in both Ghana and America regardless of corporal punishment in Ghana. One of the numerous strikes by students in Secondary Schools in Ghana was their revenge to the corporal punishment meted on them by wicked Headmasters and teachers. I don't experience disrespect from my students because I respect them as students and teach them very well. They are successful as life long learners and they express their appreciation by being respectful. Experiencing disrespect happens in almost every profession; healthcare, law enforcement, higher education, commerce and industry. It is not unique to elementary and high schools, so deal with it.

  seeing somebody being caned alone to me is traumatic.
  My teacher use to cane us until he drew blood!!
  This is no way to discipline a child. Canning us because of mistakes in maths etc!! horrible

There are many successful Ghanaians and Americans who have received excellent education without experiencing any form of corporal punishment and currently have great professional careers. If you touch any child, you will lose your job and be sued in court for child abuse. Our laws are clear on that. There will be revenge and perpetuation of violence at home and in school. Rethink.

  That Sh!t ought to stop. I had to always dodge class back in sch. Seeing those senseless cane wielding teachers always made me jittery. You cane my child now in school, you face me in court as happened to a senseless teacher who caned my niece. The Court had to also order the school not to attempt expelling her because of the action taken against the teacher. NB: there is no law in Ghana that prescribes strokes of cane as a punishment. We have administered this as a form of punishment only on moral grounds and not in consonance with any law.
