He introduced one party rule in Ghana and made himself life president. He was neither caring, compassionate, visionary, smart nor politically savvy. Most of the things he took credit for had been started by the British, our colonial masters. For instance Tema Motorway was on the drawing board when he took over and Akosombo Dam was not his brainchild. KNUST was established by Asantehene and the British. Surprisingly, most of the things he takes credit for were never initiated by him

Independence, for instance, was sought for by many and achieved under the aegis and cunningness of Kofi Nwiah, trickster and schemer extraordinaire. Well, all along I have been asking how and under what circumstances "Francis Kofi Nwiah" was able to change his name to "Kwame Nkrumah". I know that it is permissible for anybody to change his name anytime he or she wishes but it is strange and beyond comprehension for one to change his birthday from Friday to Saturday ie from Kofi to Kwame. This is what makes me suspicious of Kofi Nwiah or Kwame Nkrumah. He claimed that his date of birth was 21st September 1909. This day according to the 20th century Calendar was a Tuesday!!! So was Nkrumah born on a Tuesday, a Friday or a Saturday? We must find out what he was up to with all these very strange findings. He was indeed cunning and only preyed on the emotions of the Ghanaian masses. It was my wish that president Mills would set up a committee to investigate before declaring Nkrumah's "unknown" birthday a holiday.

When he took over we had trade surplus running into millions of Pound Sterling but when he was forced out we had a trade deficit of several million pounds sterling!! This was the result of bad governance. He should have been overthrown earlier than 1966. We all saw good governance under K4. To me K4 is the best president Ghana has ever had. Kuffour is the greatest. We thank Kotoka and Afrifa for stoping the dictator in his tracks. Ayekoo Kotoka and Afrifa. Kotoka AirPort should never be renamed.

Could you also remember that Rawlings used to incite TUC workers to strike against Liman's government to over throw it fraudulently? And could you remember that he used to take 'Kenkey' to Legon to demonstrate how the size had shrunk under Liman and we ended up in the "Rawlings's Chain" but nobody could talk? Could you further remember that Acheampong and Rawlings used the mild IMF conditions under Busia and Liman respectively as justifications for overthrowing their governments deceitfully? Could you still remember that PNDC reintroduced IMF and the World Bank with more stringent conditions after the coup without apologizing to Liman?

I don't know what the fake leftists are talking about, and I don't believe that NPP is behind the present wave of strikes either. As far as I know, NPP is only highlighting the failings and excesses of the NDC government, hopping that they would translate into votes for the party in the next elections. And that is, in fact, a genuine and legitimate politics since the failings are true and not false. Everybody in Ghana knows that cost of living under this NDC government is unbearable, and NPP is democratically seizing the opportunity to convince the electorate not to vote for NDC in the next elections.

Frankly, I don't see anything wrong with an opposition highlighting the failings of an incapable government to wrestle power from it democratically. NDC is the cause of the strikes because of the massive corruption, over spending, reckless borrowing and overall economic mismanagement that have brought untold hardship on Ghanaians.

Moreover, NDC cannot frivolously spend $5bn of public money outside the budget in 2012 to buy the conscience of some gullible voters, and yet expect everything to be normal in the subsequent years without any difficulties in the economy.

By the way, JB was not the only one who suffered under the PDA, there were several opposition members and even CPP members who were imprisoned for very minor offenses (usually by saying something negative about Nkrumah or the system) or none at all. Some were merely imprisoned for personal vendetta, because after all you did not have to prove your case in court.
Let us give Pratt the benefit of the doubt and say Nkrumah wept over the death, so then why did he not attend his funeral? Why was JB's body not release right away but held for about 4 days before releasing to the family? Is that how a person who is contrite behave? Considering also as Pratt said, that Nkrumah had a good relationship with JB's wife, why was he not at the funeral? Pratt acts like he was the only person alive during Nkrumah's era. With such folks as Pratt in our political discourse there is no wonder that there is so much division and suspicion of others with opposing views.

They would rather continue with the radical aggressions of our mother Yaa Asantewaa. But they realized that, lasting peace and freedom come with dialogue. So they had to mobilize any person that had the potential of round table discussions. This couldn't be selfishness. The bomb matters were the propaganda at the time which the NDC has adopted. If Nkrumah was collaborative enough the Dankwa Dombo Busia Ghana wouldn't have been this current mess. Nkrumah's vission wasn't a one man thinking. Where is his relevance today. Tawiah Adamafio and Ako Adjei, who by the way were in Nkrumah's government and CPP then were tried and imprisoned for the Kulungugu bombing, (though the trial was a double jeopardy, were tried and acquitted and then retried again and found guilty); don't you think JB and others should also have been giving the same opportunity to defend themselves? Forget about JB, I think PDA was a bad idea and one of the reasons why Nkrumah's government was cut short. We don't know for sure who was a CIA or KGB agent in those days, but I would imagine that since this was also the period of the cold war both agencies were meddling in many countries politics. We know Nkrumah was aligned with Russia & China (got his young pioneer and brigade ideas from the communist) and during the period we had many Russian doctors and vehicles (oponka abodam) in the country. There were Chinese security/political advisers and some came in as acrobatic trainers, so could you then label Nkrumah as a KGB agent? Nkrumah was responsible for his own downfall -- with the distrust and fear climate in the country during Nkrumah's era, it was just a matter of time for the inevitable to happen. I bet it did not take much for the CIA and others who helped Kotoka/others to convince them of a coup. I like Nkrumah's dynamism and ambitions but I think he made some mistakes which he regretted when overthrown. Nkrumah started well but was corrupted by the communist with their tactics.

Knowing that the declaration of the one party state and the life president title he had awarded himself was not taken kindly nor lightly by the opposition, he trained his guns on the opposition leaders. Nkrumah knew he'd have given his president-for-life ambition a shot in the arm if he muffled opposition voices for ever. That's what he did.

The two played their roles and are gone. What ever we do the two are now history to be told.

Both J.B Danquah and Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah meant well for this country irrespective of later political divide, accusations and counter accusations.

Today as we play the blame game, death had taken all the two heroes away leaving with the legacy of free Ghana. The question is, what are we doing to continue from where they left and what is going to be our legacy for the next generation, should rather be our big concern and worries as we have a ruining government in hand to deal with.

That was a grave mistake and a weakness on Nkrumah's part and that came back to bite him and Ghana in the butts big time.

The selfishness of JB and his 'mate me ho' sidekicks forced a coup unto Ghana which was followed successively by other coups and paved the way for another murderous bastard in the name of JJ Rawlings who turned our beloved country even more upside down and made life all the more unbearable. We are still reeling from the effects of the madness this so-called revolutionary unleashed unto our country.

This was all courtesy of the traitorous JB DANQUAH and his gangsters who forced Ghana to have the first taste of a coup which manifested into a coup galore over the years.

The British did not come to the Gold Coast to colonise us and that's the truth.Before the British came here in the middle of 16th century where they built their first castle at KORMANSTI in the central region,there were already many European traders spreading along the coast.One should note that all the castles along the coast were purposely built for commercial actvities,that is point number one.Our own people were busily fighting themselves,killing and slaving each other even before the arrival of the first Europeans in the 15th century at Elmina and Komenda.It was in this context of tribal wars that the Europeans offered protection to the coastal people thus protecting their own interest as well.I don't think that has changed significantly even today.There is this renewable agreement between the coastal chiefs and the British merchant leaders to stay for 100 years even before the British sent a governor here after George Maclean in 1843 to claim part of the Gold Coast as British colony,especially the coastal areas.Nkrumah might have had some hints about the 100 years renewable agreement between some of our Chiefs and the British that Danquah might not know.Based on this knowledge,Nkrumah could demand the independence with legitimacy than Danquah and that was exactly what happened.Anyway,this untold history was passed over to me by my mother,Chritina Conduah who is educated and comes from 2 differnt royal families in the Central and Western regions.I want somebody who has a better knowledge to clarify the issue.Thank you.

I would only say the two played significant roles in each person's way of seeing things. Was each loyal or honest to his ideology, definitely yes. On the other hand, I will admire Nkrumah for his reaction to JB's death, and why not! After all, JB died in prison and on Nkurumah's watch; and as President, Nkurumah could have done something about it by being a bigger person. Now, having jailed your political opponent and see him die in prison for whatever causes, should haunt the conscience of any decent and good human being. For those who might have thought Nkurumah did not have a heart, Pratt's article tries to say the contrary. The most important thing, in my view, for all Ghanaians is where we go from here. The two men are now history, although they played important roles in Ghana's political development. It is what Ghanaians do with what they have today, that should count and engage the nation's commitment -- good governance, economic discipline, being a brother's keeper, mutual trust and above all hard work in the interest of Ghana.
