Chieftaincy in Ghana is Illegal and even more illegal when it goes with land ownership. I do not still understand why chieftaincy is so pampered in Ghana. By 1906 the whole Ghana had become a British colony by conquest, ruled from Britain. Ownership of land and structures belonged to the British. For example how did Ashanti king gain expansion and acquired land, it was through conquest in war. Ashantis conquered many tribes and annexed their lands to add to thier's because they were powerful and it became their land and property for ever not subject to negotiations, and the people of those tribes they killed some and took some as slaves for the slave market or as servants. These tribes included the Denkyiras, Assins, Fantes, Brongs, the Moles, the Akwamu and many others. These lands they took together to form the large Kingdom with a king. So the British also came and conquered the Ashantis and all other parts of Ghana and annexed it, ruled it, and controlled every person. At that time the STATUS of the country was COLONY and belonged to the British which they named GOLDCOAST with all the persons in side, not for Ashantis or Fantes or Frafras of Gonjas etc. INDEPENDENCE- Now Kwame Nkrumah and others also came fighting the British not with arms and guns, but through psychological and social warfare and succeeded in taken back the whole land space including volta Region. In this NEW STATUS they also named GHANA. The land now called Ghana was obtained from its rightful owners, the British. So now where comes someone calling himself a chief and owning lands, which land? The logic here is simple, if for example an Ashanti thinks any land that formed part of his kingdom should be returned to him after independence, then the same Ashanti must also return the lands they conquered from the Fantes, the Denkyiras, the Brongs, the Moles, and the Akwamus etc for fair play. After all you conquered those lands and took possessions, so the British also conquered and took possession but the same lands have been bought back as a new entity, which portion of it do you become a chief and own. Our situation is exactly the American situation where there are no chiefs and all lands are vested in the government. You only own a land which you bought and paid for with your money.

As an Asante, I get worried when people show disrespect for the King. I would like the Palace to find a way of collecting views of the masses about the King and the Palace, what is causing discontent towards the King and find means of rectifying certain things. e.g. some people think that the King has "sold out", the kingdom to NDC and they treat Asantes with contempt. Some Asantes also think that the way pieces of land are taken away from them when the lease expires and sold to "foreigners" is questionable. Unless the King is also a fan of "Yentie obiara", then he must listen to his subjects and make some corrections so as to restore dignity to the throne. I am speaking with passion.

Kwaku Quarteng is there fighting VIVO Energy business for useless fame, Enin is quiet there for convenience, Hammond is fighting privatization as a communist but claims he is a capitalist by default, what a hypocrisy. If privatization of ECG will make it better what is wrong . Fight for useful ventures for Adansi and not just opposing like conservatives.
