I beg to differ ,sir. You see, government cant ran any business profitably for obvious reasons.Take a walk around any government -run business and you will understand why.Did you ever hear about State Farm ,Workers Brigade ,Builders Brigade and others?Workers output in all these establishments tended to be negligible because of the attitude of"I will get paid whether I work or not"Businesses are established to make profit which in turn assured workers of stable employment, benefits and good retirement packages.Dont let us always compare our situation to only African countries but in the West, even counties or districts distribute power after buying them from producers. It is not uncommon to find two three different power supply companies selling power in that same district. In the end ,it is the consumers who benefit due to competition. Each power company try to outdo the other with incentives, etc and power outages or dumsor is unheard of unless there is a natural disaster like a hurricane, tornado or winter storm .Even in such situations the companies work extra hours to restore power.I think it will be good for the consumer in Ghana if the ECG is privatised and other power companies come on stream to offer choices to consumers.Thats just "my two cents"Lets hear other views, and please lets be candid and offer solid views.

"stated-owned company which is currently struggling to distribute power to Ghanaians."
ECG is not struggling to distribute power. There is simply not enough power to distribute. The two statements are not the same!!!

WE LIVING IN EUROPE AND THAT MATTER U.K,BELEIVE IT WILL ALLEVIATE THE DUMSOR,DUMSOR,SITUATION GHANA IS GOING THROUGH.IN THE U.K, ALMOST ALL THE ENERGY SECTOR IS PRIVATISED , SO; 1) YOU CAN NOT DO ILLIGAL CONNECTIONS.
2)YOU CAN NOT USE ENERGY WITHOUT PAYING FOR.
3)IMMEDIATELY THERE IS A FAULT , THE ENGINEERS MAKE SURE THEY RESTORE IT, AS IT CAN GIVE BAD NAME TO THE COMPANY.
4)THERE IS COMPETITION IN THE PRICING OF ENERGY, SO YOU CAN CHOOSE THE ONE YOU FEEL WILL BE GOOD FOR YOU.
5)IT HELPS TO MAKE THE ECONOMY VERY STRONGER, ESPECIALLY IT WILL BRING IN MORE JOBS FOR THE UNEMPLOYEDAS IT WILL CREATE MORE JOBS.
SO FOR GOD'S SAKE DO IT NOW AND NOW WITHOUT DELAY.

Is distribution the problem of the generation and transmission is our present and future danger ? Care should be taken as I believe the generation side and transmission should be looked at first before distribution. A lot of things must go into getting the distribution side sorted out completely to eliminate illegal connections etc etc etc to make it more attractive for a private partnership. Is the Government ready to do all that is necessary before ECGs privatization ?

Unhealthy options.Absolute privatization is my take.No trace of anything government or the semblance of it.The SOEs have always been CASH COWS for the managers.Hence, all the stealing of our resources.Government should sit back and create the conducive environment by way of fiscal policy.Parliament should visit the legislation which gave birth to the ECG and update it with emphasis on revenue management.Prompt payment of bills and all the BOOTLEG connections should be seriously addressed.

Government privatisation is not an option for ECG.The problem facing ECG is not lake that turn the turbines or the water level but both the obsolete wornout turbines and government appointed board of directors are the problem hindering the power supply. For ECG to work effectively government has to grant ECG full autonomy and redraw its board of directors from ECG.Government has to make a deal with ECG to own what shares he intended to own and the rest of the profit is for ECG and it shareholders. It seems Government is confuse or understood the meaning of privatisation and shares.Privatisation means selling it without government owning shares.selling shares means government is asking those who want to do business by contribute their resources for profit sharing but the don't own any part of ECG or the company. There are more information and ideas to provide but writing a book is not necessary.

Generation problem is no problem..it's all about money..When you have money you can easily increase ur generating capacity but as to whether u can have them reliably delivered to your customer is the main issue here. ECg must go
