Unless we have a ruthless business perosn from the US, U.K or Cuba to run Ghana unique hospital we would forever suffer and retired Doctors and professors would be running the show in white coat pretending they are still in post. Root them all out now and not tomorrow so that we could move forward once and forever. Many so called doctors have not moved away anyway to experience that actually taking sabbatical leave is healthy to for the body and soul as well as the performance at work. They are stale.

I am not aware of hospital management in other counteries, but I can assure you that from what I am hearing, it seems we need the British model of hospital administration in Ghana. In Britain doctors have nothing to do with hospital administration, they are employed to do what they have been trained to do best, treating patients.
We only have one medical director representing all the doctors on the Board. All the doctors know their responsibilities and the system is very effective. I can assure you that there are a lot of Ghanaians outside who can help.

This is not entirely true. There are also very good CEOs in UK NHS Trust Hospitals who are doctors. You can have a doctor who has knowledge and skills in management who will be an excellent leader. It' all bores to leadership. We have had very good hospital managers in Ghana recently. We can name them, the Frimpong-Biatengd, Nsiah-Asare's etc. What the politicians should do is to leave our Teaching Hospitals alone and allow the Boards to advertise or search and interview people to fill vacant CEO positions. The Board membership should also be devoid of politics, we need committed, dedicated, hard working leaders to lead our Teaching Hospital. Hospital Management is an art on its own and it's not anybody at all that can run such big institutions. The Ghana Health Service and Teaching a Hospitals Board Act, Act 525, 1996, states clearly how and who appoints CEOs of Teaching Hospitals. They are not appointed by the President. TheBoards appoint such CEOs. In Ghana we don't follow our own laws that are passed by the Parliament. That's is the problem we face as a country. Everything is partisan politics!!!

This is someone who benefitted from the same system and now kicking against it. U were appointed by prez k4 just like frimpong Boateng. Sory should show us what he did as director general apart from chasing small girls. the problem in the health sector in ghana is that the doctors have been given too much power. they head all health institutions whether capable or not. the headship of hospitals should be opened up for competition just like it is done in other countries.

It is people like you that we will continue to remain slaves. Think and begin to reason like real human beings created by God. A white man will never post such a comment. Sheer displacy of idiocy.

So what were the board members put there to do in the first place? Were they asleep for things to get to this state only for the board to be dissolved and that's all. They should all be made to refund all allowances paid them with interest. This will make other board members in other institutions to sit up. Or we don't need the boards.

Wonders in this world shall never end. Most of the top civil servants including Elias Sory himself are excessively partisan with political inclinations. They are then rewarded with positions such as Director General,GHS,CEO of Teaching hospitals through their links with influential politicians and political parties they secretly sponsor. Most high profile appointments in the health sector is clearly not on merit giving rise to square pegs in round holes. It has also generated rivalry and factionalism leading to acrimonious relationship among the top hierarchy of the health sector. The health sector is clearly polarized on political grounds and top positions are won through intense lobbying, politicking and bribery. The current Director General Ebenezah Appiah Denkyira was undeservedly pushed in as DG with the aid of Alban Bagbin then Health Minister from the MOH as one of their Directors. The GHS has now become a political organisation worse hit by nepotism and cronyism. The GHS is now worse hit by corruption and underperformance by a DG who was handpicked because of political influence.Sory himself was a beneficiary of political influence in his appointment as DG.We are yet to see the day these high profile appointments in the health sector will be done purely on merit without political interference and influence.

One person cannot implement the reforms required to bring about the changes envisioned for K'bu. The new CEO should be given the authority to make changes and bring in new senior management team who can work with him otherwise it will be still deja vu. On person alone cannot uproot all those who are well entrenched in the facility and fleecing it to death now, including the current senior management team. Yes, the new team should be people with management training and experiences and not necessary doctors.
