O Lord I pray for Mother Ghana, that you reduce the number of FOOLISH VOTERS in 2016. Father the small number that will be left, wash their faces with sea sand so that they would be able to see the predicament they have put Ghana in through their foolish action, and change for the better. I pray that you let them vote this USELESS and CLUELESS GOVERNMENT out. Let those who these FOOLISH VOTERS envy because they are prospering as a result of which they vote foolishly so that they will be equal with them prosper even more. Father let those who are sympathetic to these USELESS VOTERS stop giving them money when they come begging, so that they will realize 'Ghana is hard', and vote wisely this time round. Lord, there are too many office to office beggars in Ghana, that is a sign of poverty, kick those who encourage this out of office. Merciful Father, too many FOOLISH VOTERS who have no sense of dignity are rewarded with trips to soccer matches only to go and sleep on the floor in foreign land, and eventually seek asylum, stamp that disgraceful spirit out of Ghana. Lord, you have blessed us with everything that can make us rich, but you seemed to have forgotten to protect mother Ghana from greedy politicians and thieves; we call on you to rise and let these nation wreakers scatter in 2016. Amen

"Incorrigible and unbelievable, Oman Ghana."
So, these doctors are working only some few hours daily and go to their own private businesses, BUT ALAS, they're being paid FULL-SALARIES as public/government workers/employees? That’s gaming the system!!
A suggestion worth trying:
Why not have "automated time keeping machine" installed so the doctors and other workers have to "clock or stamp in, when they report to work and clock out, when they leave for the day--so the government/ministry of Health will pay them according to time worked only!! Well, let me digress, though: Which honest person will POLICE or SUPERVISE this without taking bribes to mess it up?
Why allow that foolishness to go on and on and on?? Sick people go to these hospitals and there aren't enough doctors to attend to them and I now know why and thanks to Dr. Akosa. This could also mean that these doctors may be doing the following illegal stuff:
1) Sending patients to their own Clinics or pharmacies or labs to get treated, buy medication or pay for lab tests—all at the expense of the government.
If they so much care for their PENSIONS, then why not QUIT government work and run their own damn private clinics, pharmacies or labs? Same nonsense with many bone & knuckle-head MPs in Ghana, who think their salaries and benefits aren’t big or good enough, BUT they will not QUIT and seek employment somewhere else to be handsomely compensated—but WHY, MPs??
In short: In Ghana, nothing works or functions properly, because of GREED, SELFISHNESS, CORRUPTION and BAD HAIR-CUTS. Damn it, Negroes!!

It would appear that those in control of the NDC, for the time being, were bent on excluding other bona fide members of the Party who may wish to lay democratic claims to who becomes the next flag bearer of the Party by excluding them even before the mortal remains of the demised President were interred. It is also symptomatic of how political party elites in Ghana and Africa worm their way into the confidences of persons perceived as likely to ascend to power positions for purposes of eventual personal economic gain at the expense of the generality of the mass of Party members and the Nation which every President swears to serve under the Constitution

Let the government be bold and introduce the Cuban model for training medical personnel whereby every district hospital will be accredited to train doctors and nurses. Within a few years, we will have enough doctors and they will not be holding us to ransom like they are doing. Besides, if someone gets trained in the districts, by the time they finish, the likelihood is that they will have no problem staying there to work. It is quite common for people to stay in the places they went to uni if there is work there because they get used to the place. Please, let us remove the GMA's mafia tactics from the system and train enough doctors. They are making it so difficult for someone to become a doctor in Ghana while people with less qualifications than those rejected here are able to do medicine in UK or America. Meanwhile most of the medical innovations are originating from outside Ghana. This means that our system is just being stifled to suit a few people for no gain.

I might like to add that Prof Akosa is right. The same doctors and medical staff at the government hospitals have opened labs etc across the hospitals and intentionally destroy the public facility equipment just to send patients to their private places. The government must first implement a conflict of interest measure where any one working at the public hospitals cannot own any private practice.

The response given by Dr. Opoku Adusei; the general secretary of the Ghana Medical Association, in his reaction to Professor Badu Akosah's statement to the effect that most Medical Doctors on the payroll of the State have been short changing Government, by indulging in the practice of spending less hours at the public hospitals they are employed and drawing their salaries, and instead spend the greater hours at their private clinics can at best be described as the most illogical reasoning ever given by any person of his stature, and should be condemned by every well-meaning Ghanaian! Why is it that such people still continue to play on the intelligence of Ghanaians? Is Dr. Opoku Adusei by inference saying that he and his colleagues would ever accept a situation where Employees at their Private Hospitals take to the habit of spending less working hours at where they are employed and spend the greater working hours on their private engagements, because they (the workers) feel that their Employer is not providing adequate pension for their future? How about if every worker in the public sector were to be using the same argument to be putting up similar behavior at their work places? This lawlessness and stupid thinking should give way to better reasoning! Dr. Opoku Adusei should come again, because, he and his colleagues have been holding Ghanaians hostage for far too long! As much as there is blame to laid at the feet of the national government, there’s much more to be said about individuals in Ghana who accept and occupy management posts in government executive offices entrusted with being the eyes and ears of government at their various departments and yet fail to be honest with government and the people of the nation while they shamelessly collect their above normal salaries and associated benefit packages.
Dr. Akosa and his predecessors know good and darn well those practices and procedures of most of the specialists who work in our nation’s hospitals and clinics are as old as Adam. But if they, with all their power and connections in government, cannot formulate policies with concurrence of parliament make changes in how public officers at the Ministry of Health must serve to the people of Ghana to deserve their wages/salaries then I'm sorry blaming the thieves who work in our hospitals and clinics or the national government will not get my sympathy.
It is incumbent on people in government executive offices to make information available in the public domain, publicly chastise government when government refuse to help solve problems to help the people but leaving office before airing the problems out of your department is never a way to go. Where are our heroes when we need them the most in Ghana?

I personally think Prof Akosa as Director General of Ghana Health Service performed creditably and the records in Ghana Health Service during his tenure speaks volume of his achievement.I am one person who is of the view that the only way to avert corruption and institutional failure is to have men of integrity who stand for the truth with nationalistic and patriotic passion. When you have the likes of Appiah Denkyira whose records is bridled with strings of underachievement and outright disaster in every institution he finds himself then you expect same for the health sector. The GHS as the chief health service provider is headed by a vindictive and a grand corrupt DG whose credibility is down to the gutters. As far as i am concerned the health sector will even face worse problems as far as Appiah Denkira remains the DG.If you have a Director General who can connive and fraudulently implicate colleague doctors with a mental illness to cover corruption at Effia Nkwanta hospital in favor of cronies, then you expect him to be the worse performing DG in the history of GHS.Disgraceful statistics in unprecedented child mortality figures in the upper west he served as the Regional Director of Health with a ward surprisingly named after him will be part of his legacy.Indirectly sacking colleague doctors in less than a month in ascension as DG without audience will be part of his legacy.Bizarre indiscretion and the most weird decision of signing a letter to dismissed colleague doctors on grounds of suffering a 'possible delusional disorder' without evidence will be part of his legacy.Even my illiterate grandfather an unorthodox herbal practitioner knows psychiatry problems are not solved by stressing patient further by sacking him and cutting of his salary. The chickens are coming back to roost and i am more than happy no mean a person but Prof Akosa known to be very blunt when it comes to the truth is talking about it.The very reasons that triggered the confrontation in Effia Nkwanta were problems such as persistent absenteeism mostly by doctors working in their private clinics, routine private practice in a government institution where even patience with insurance were charged consultation fees.It was this same hospital a general practitioner charged a patient 2500 ghana cedis for caesarean section as at 2008.This case was covered up by the hospital management when the client threatened legal action against the illegal charge. The worse scenario in which Appiah Denkyira sort to cover by sacking the doctors was a bribe of 50 ghana cedis a patient could not pay for blood transfusion that eventually killed her published in the News Papers captured by other media.Dr Ntodi had falsely accused the doctor on duty at the casualty that night vowing to get him sacked by the GHS at a management meeting and succeeded by conniving with the hierarchy of GHS including Appiah Denkyira.

Is Dr Opoku Adusei making the case that because of the pension issue they have with the Government they must cheat their way to a better pension?
Dr Opoku must be told right in the face that we have one and only one truth which is sacred. It is no secret to most observers that most Public sector Doctors who have their own Private Clinics have been cheating the government for so many years.
Dr Opoku Adusei and others who think like him must be told that it is good to secure our future but the fact is the future is always unknown. It could happen that you may not be alive to enjoy the wealth you have stored for the future. It is therefore advisable to think of the well-being of others in our quest to secure our future.

I live in Canada most of the doctors have private offices but they work in the hospital as well volunteering for some hours every week at the hospitals they are charged if they use operating rooms then there are doctors who work full time at the hospitals on call doctors sometimes have their private offices they bill the government so now what we have to do is to look at insurance. People should have basic insurance then they upgrade their premiums if they wish to do so in that case you are covered whether you like it or not now physical cash handed to doctors will not happen unless you bill the insurance it all comes to honesty how many honest people do we have in Ghana zero the government will then tax the health insurance organization and also doctors must have their own insurance for mal practice suits they the doctors will be vigilant in their work if not you will be sued then your premium will go up that's way to have an effective health care system. Doctor Akosa is talking about Surgeons, Dentists, family and internal medical doctors who should be working 8 hours at the hospitals. And you are talking about Consultants and specialists like Cardiologists, Nephrologists, etc in the USA or Canada who go to the hospitals for only a specific time; sometimes 2 to 3 hours to work on their patients. Some of these specialists have their clinics and others work at 2 or 3 hospitals a day. So there is a difference here.
Yes, I do agree with that it all boils down to honesty in Ghana. Nothing works in our country.

I gave you a lot of example but you conveniently chose to deal with family doctors. Stop dwelling on just family doctors and let's deal with the whole issue. The reason why we are talking about this was the result of the dentist who was arrested yesterday. And moreso, you are not articulating your thoughts well because you are mixing responsibilities and ethics together.
Yes, family doctor can decide to work only mornings at this clinic and choose to work Afternoons at the hospitals. We have family doctors who are employed to work full time at the hospitals who can MOONLIGHT (few hours) sometimes at urgent clinics like the North York one at Bathurst and Finch (Toronto). And we have family doctors who owns their private clinic who also MOONLIGHT (certain days) at the urgent clinics or some emergency department like the one at Humber River (Toronto). I know the INs and OUTs of hospitals and medicine both in Canada and USA well.
What you don't understand is, in Ghana the family doctors, dentists, Surgeons, Internists and others are EMPLOYED by the government as compared to those in the States and Canada where almost ALL are employed privately. So unlike Canada and the USA where they have the luxury to negotiate with their employer, in Ghana, they signed a contract to WORK from MONDAY TO FRIDAY from 8am to 4pm. When do these doctors get the chance to go to their private clinics to practice. This is the concern of the Akosa. Please, think deeply.
If we are to bring in the hippocratic oath they might adhere to, then in Ghana, no medical doctor who has been employed by the government to work 40 hours (5 days x 8 hrs) should not even attempt to open his or her clinic. Don't you think so? Because they don't have the luxury like their colleagues in Canada to go to their clinics in the morning or certain days to work. Can't you understand this simple debate?

if a democratic government can put measures in place to protect and provide for the People it will serve everybody in the Country right to return millitary leadership.
Democracy granted the People of freedom with responsibilities so if the later got missing without trace , i think the gun can find it

This is what you people have been doing years far back before SSSS implementation. This is no excuse. Dr. Opoku is not being sincere. This practice has been going on for a long time. Our doctors always try to compare their standard of living to American and European doctors, forgetting that their education is 99% funded by the government. As a nation, we should decide which way to go. Either privatizing the health industry or maintaining the status quo. Running the health industry is a big financial burden on all of us and we cannot tolerate this behavior after paying for their education.
In the advance countries where they compare themselves to, the practice comes with responsibilities and perfection is the rule. Anything short of that will result to lawsuits. We're aware of the many negligence on their part and it's time they're held responsible for their mistakes.
