Any team that is dependent on a single player for success is no team. How did Black Stars get to this point of over reliance on one player for success. The same scenario was the case when Abedi Pele was the sole engine of the then Black Stars. Countries like Senegal snd Algeria even had the luxury of talent to bench their most dreaded strikers sometimes when Ghanaians struggle to get Asamoah Gyan for fitness to enable him feature in a crutial match. It is never the best spproach to building a national team and yet we claim to be one of the best on the African continent. When countries like Cameroun, Nigeria, Senegal, Algeria etc. boast of beating some world cup cathederal countries of Argentina, Spain, Germany and France; Ghana goes round boasting to have played a drawn game with Germany in Brazil. What kind of defeatist mentality do we have in this country, trying always praising ourselves for something others have achieved and don't even pay attention to anymore. Ghana must wake up and stop the mediocre attitude that has taken the better part of us in this country.

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan struck a dramatic late winner to keep alive his side's hopes of reaching the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals.

In a game of very few chances, Gyan snatched an unlikely victory when he latched on to a long ball and angled in a drive in stoppage time.

Algeria missed the only other clear chance when Nabil Bentaleb side-footed well wide from 12 yards on 20 minutes.

The game had looked set to remain goalless until Gyan's late strike.

Gyan missed Ghana's opening match loss to Senegal because of a bout of malaria and although he was understandably lacking sharpness on his return, he persevered until the very end to rescue his team.
