No formation absolves a player from fouling an opponent in the "18ft" area for a penalty; formations can’t change the mind of a “bad referee” and neither does a formation helps a player to SCORE or LOSE a penalty kick (remember Asamoah Gyan's history on penalty kicks?).

And, although coach Gant and Mr. Tuffuor may be right with their formation Mumbo Jumbo, the truth is that the players aka people play the game and NOT the formation playing the game. Formation is only a STRATEGY to position some players and could be quickly changed during the game—having assessed the opponents STRENGTHS and WEAKNESSSES.

As a former Ghana first division player myself, and played big time during my secondary school days in Ghana, I know well that "formations are just GIMMICKS and fancy preparation terms” and that only the players can carry the day by winning.

For example:

1) If you have player injuries or it rains, a formation can't save you;

2) If you get a RED card from bad tackling and kicked out, formation could not be counted on;

3) If players a havening bad day on the field, would you telephone formation?

4) If you're lucky to get a free, a corner or penalty kick, would formation kick the ball for you?

5) Look, inadequate preparation, over confidence over opponents, RUSTY skills and silly anticipation of BONUS or appearance fees can doom your playing level and DON'T blame your loss on FORMATION—because formation can’t run, talk, see, feel or hear!!

Lastly, our players should rather have high "self-confidence", be well conditioned, have a winning strategy, WORK HARD and pray for some LUCK to beat Algeria tomorrow and onto South Africa's Bafana Bafana next week.

After the CIV game, Osei Kuffour explained what Carl is saying here as exactly what the CIV coach did during his substitutions. Per Kuffour, the CIV coach subed two player and reverted to the 3-5-2 which worked to perfection for his side. Kuffour then went ahead and explained exacctly what Carl is repeating here (as was shown on SA DSTV). Now carl Tuffour wants us to believe he is such a master tactition who knows the effects and depth of the 3-5-2, when all he is doing is plagiarizing.
Come on Carl, you are not fooling anyone. At least you could have said you heard Osei Kuffour explaing this system and you concur with him. Remember there is no greater theft than stealing intellectual property - or someone's ideas making them yours.

Our lateral defenders are full backs and so our 3-5-2 formation becomes more like 5-5-0. No forward player and the two defensive midfielders add to the defenders. Rabiu Mohamed never ventures forward at all in a game.
