And the less we talk about Ghana's democracy fraught with criminals and arsonists the better.

"It takes China a month or so to take a decision on a major national project and it takes the US almost ten years to come close to a decision to do anything".
In fact, I've admired the dispatch with which the Chinese have tackled their development agenda since the ascent of Jiang Zemin to the Presidency.
Their only Achilles Heel has been human rights - very severe, sometimes inhumane treatment of force-confessed "criminals".
But even on that front, they've been improving, as the West provides the watchdog.
Their quick-execution-of-projects agenda is admirable, transforming the country from a predominantly-agrarian economy to the current industrial economy.
In the next 30 years, I bet agriculture will drop from the present 12% of the economy to 1%, as manufacturing and service predominate.
Right now, the Presidents and Premiers are not elected by popular vote like the Western democracies, our role models, but they're right on track when it comes to the speed of development, and their leaders do not steal money as rampantly and egregiously as ours do.
CRIMINALS IN SUITS indeed.
If African leaders want to move their countries forward, they know what to do: STOP STEALING!

Dr. Satty, Please, do not think this so-called PEACE in Ghana is from the good works of any individual, it is the collective patience of the entire populace. Had that not been the case, Ghana would have been destroyed more than 100 times that of Liberia. The people of Ghana have known that forceful ejection of government can never bring peace so they have rejected that from the heart and have been trying to use the ballot box as the best means. Just tell your people to be patient and act like Ghanaians but never ask any individual in Ghana for a help. Even J.J. Rawlings whom people outside claim to be good has serious charges and questions to clear in the ears of the Ghanaians. You can do it, do not loose heart. It may be a long struggle but truth stands. Put it on your heart that your great-grand-children are the ones to enjoy the good result of your sweat but not you.

Sadly, that is one among many silly errors in this article. In the first paragraph, the author should have said "... in the current quagmire in which the country has found itself" instead of the meaningless phrase he actually used. In the second paragraph he tells us that the political turmoil led to an attempted coup by the president. That is idiocy! He goes on in the next paragraph to state the obvious - that a press conference was organized for the press. In the paragraph that follows, he misuses the ugly word "gotten" in a sentence that is very poorly written and would have been incorrect even if he had used the more fitting word "reached". I could go on with a number of other examples of poor writing but it would serve no useful purpose as the standard of journalistic writing in the Ghanaian media is very low and sub-editors are either themselves as useless as the original writers or there are no sub-editors. Ghanaian journalism is laughable!

In fact, I feel very sad for Yahaya Jammeh because he had failed miserably to learn anything. He had so soon forgotten how the 'Almighty' Ghaddafi was killed like a dog and his corpse treated with indignity.
Jammeh does not even need one of the numerous false prophets in Ghana to tell him that he will die a miserable death if he does not amend his ways as a President of The Gambia. Time will surely tell.

The same is going on in the country which you are seeking help from. Mahama cannot help in that area as he would look stupid and flip-flopper if he heeds to your request.
Just go back to your country and do door-to-door campaign to educate your folks and let them compare their life time achievements from the time Jammeh came to power and to date. If they are reasonable beings, they will bring in a new government in your country's next election period. Good luck.

Gambia is a country where political campaigns are strictly regulated. Often lawful demand to hold political meetings are refused without any reason. What you suggested is not workable in Gambia. Rather, I see and have noted with special interest the statement the Gambian opposition member made on the Status of ECOWAS's non-interference in matters of other state party. This is and had been a challenging issue that is contributing to impunity, disrespect the peoples rights and total peoples rights violations. I like to ask what for example should and must ECOWAS do when a sitting president intentionally change the national constitution for him/her to rule without a term limit. We must also not forget that, Gambia desired on its republican status twice. Why, because the people do not understand what in 1960. It took them five years and in 1965 the people voted positively for republican status. This how Gambia is build since independence. No wonder stones are still used as tokens during elections. So does Gambia know and understand ballot pare? It will take another fifty years for Gambia to switch to use of ballot paper.

Dr Satty how feasible do you think it is for ECOWAS to bring you to power in 2016?
The only way you can become president is through popular support by your own people. So if education is lacking you've got to start from there. Campaigning from village to village, hamlet by hamlet.
The next should be popular uprising by Gambians alone and not ECOWAS citizens I am afraid.
The reasoning here is that when the coup attempt was made and "luckily" unsuccessful, there were about 90% plus Gambians who commented on the tavia network website that, they supported Yayah Gammeh, he was almost the savior of Gambia, the country was the most peaceful and in fact the best in West Africa.
So my question to Dr Satty is how does he change this sort of mindset. Where people vote with stones and think it is OK.
The GDP per capita of the GAMBIA is $500, certainly light years away from rich African nations.
President Jawara was educated in Ghana if my history serves me well. So why should his country be in such a quagmire?
Major exports of Gambia I am told is palm kernel and groundnuts, so if tourism is at a standstill due to security concerns the we may be having disaster in our hands pretty soon.
Gammeh himself trained as a soldier partly in the United States so is he saying it is OK to remain in power for that long and make people vote with stones? What a crap mentality. They should be voting then with palm kernel since those are precious.
By the way what help did Dr Satty give Ghana when Yayah Gammeh slaughtered 44 Ghanaians in the Gambia?

As he rightly pointed out, ECOWAS as an organization has no right to go down into their affair in that manner as stipulated in the ECOWAS protocol and Rules. So Why does he want President Mahama to act contrary to the such rules. President Mahama is very wise you know. Cuba being set freely from embargo by the US was through President Mahama's international speeches.
Another issue, is he appealing to president Mahama to help because Ghana helped Gambia some years back in obtaining Independence and training their human resources or because president Mahama is the chairman of ECOWAS?
I wonder why sometimes opposition leaders of political parties campaign outside their own home countries and make noise somewhere. Akufo addo who has turned London as his platform to campaign to non-voters who won't be even close to a ballot box when there is an election in Ghana. This Gambian Opposition leader also wants to turn Ghana into his platform and campaign to non-Gambians.

You must thank God that you're still alive.

Stones? I am lost in a small forest. How do one vote with stones? How is it done in this age of technology? The mind of the black African has a lot of questions.
Be clear. Do you mean "owing" "owning"?
Correction, "owing" or "owning"?
Sadly, that is one among many silly errors in this article. In the first paragraph, the author should have said "... in the current quagmire in which the country has found itself" instead of the meaningless phrase he actually ...

Invest and compete with the monopoly - I must be bucking for a "Section 8" or need a hole in my head
I stand with the call of this opposition leader. Every word of his makes sense. The future of Africa thrives on morality and getting rid of these undemocratic dinosaurs who keep taking Africa back to the ice age.
This Jammeh's would be finished by the end of the year. If he survives another uprising then he is invisible. A bullet in his mouth is all the solution. He is an apology of an African leader
Hahahahaha voting with stones my goodness in this 21 century. Gambia is still in the stone age

If the president of Ghana is called a thief, then how do you call the main opposition leader in Ghana who claims to be a lawyer but has no law certificate and cannot even mention the law school he attended.
