It is not just football, it is a political tool than can be used to create national unity{a common footballer, Drogba, helped to stop the war in Ivory Coast. It can also be used to raise the moral and confidence of the people. We can also use it to promote our culture and our personality. We can use football to promote tourism and crate wealth for the nation. John Paintsil did not sit in the 4 walls of the university classroom but I can tell you that he is better educated than most Ghanaian university graduates who have never lived abroad. Ghana is "Gyimi" country and that is why the politicians take you for a ride. Why do you think no one ever resigns from a political position?

Why should he be honoured? There are so many excellent players who REALLY sacrificed their services for Ghana for nothing. In any case, he played with a team so what about the rest?

Anyboby who does a good job for their country in whatever capacity deserves to be honoured. Nothing wrong with honouring a faithfaul servant. Football is close to Ghanaian hearts and its impact on the morale wellbeing of a nation that loves a sport is huge. If the presidents makes a list of a past sports personalities and holds a feast at a national house for them, will that not be nice. This can be extended to civil servants and farmers as well.
