Well Written Paa Kwesi Ndoum. The whole world knows that you are one of the best if not the best out there to lead our people to the promised land. However, our folks are so hypocritical of the true facts. They know what you are preaching makes a lot of sense yet when they get to the ballot boxes, they are influenced with things like motor bikes, fried rice packages and a whole bunch of stupid incentives. They sell their minds and future for so little and turn around and complain when the government they voted into power refuses to deliver. This cyclical stupidity has been going for decades. Where would the like of Mahama, Akuffo Addo, Kuffours, Rawlingses etc., etc be without education? I am always proud of the educational fundamentals I received in Ghana prior to coming to Graduate School here in the US. It simply makes a lot of sense to educate the masses. Anything less is simply a mockery of our system and naked robbery of intellecutalism especially as it pertains to the future generations and Ghana as a whole. GHANAIANS, PLEASE VOTE WITH YOUR HEADS AND NOT YOUR STOMACHS....

Kwame Nkrumah understood it very clearly which is why he implemented mass education right after independence. Unfortunately, we failed miserably after his overthrow. Hopefully, people in Ghana who are serious and committed to adult conversations need to figure out how to make this a reality. Otherwise, our attempts at development will continue to be a joke.

The problem I find with you, Paa Kwesi and other political wannabe, is that you have no original ideas or ideals of your own but good at reproduction of old and stale ideas from other cultures.
Have you and others seriously analyzed why democracy is successfully at work in Western industrialized nations but have failed to work in nations that have tried to be democratic since the founding of USA? I am not opposed to free educations and or a compulsory mandate for an age group. What I object to is a lousy elite class of politicians who do not consider linkages between school structures and the quality of education. Why must our children continue to attend elementary school or secondary schools under leaky roof structures, filthy unfinished classroom without windows and or doors and without air conditioning so we slowly roast them under corrugated aluminum roofing sheets?
Before any of you dimwits talk about your wonderful but shallow ideas on education lets think about giving our children and children's children classrooms, teaching tools and equipment that will move our educated children ahead of the competition. It is never going to be good for Ghana's children to be barely educated with basic skills because for as long as there are nations such as India with a population of 1.2 billion people and counting Ghana's 23 million cannot compete with either the population numbers of Nigeria, India, China and other populous nations. We can only compete and win when our classroom buildings and structures are fit for learning. Let us resolve ourselves in Ghana to give our children the best if we are to prove that there is wisdom in building upon and improving systems that we know work currently.
America has been at the forefront of innovation because most of the school structures are fit for human occupancy and with the needed teaching tools and equipment. Where school buildings are not suitable for learning as in most urban inner city schools, we know the statistics have not been pretty. So why do we keep repeating the cheap political thrill of free education and mandated compulsory education when school structures, how students get to school safely and on time or how they are fed and ready to learn is of no urgency to all you political zealots?

Just like they said in the US, "with all deliberate speed" with respect to equal educational opportunities for African-Americans. Now, there are more African-American youth in prisons, than in colleges!

Yes to compulsory education, but that certainly is not what makes a nation great. The education has to be meaningful. Many schools in Ghana are over-crowded. Many schools lack teachers. In some boarding schools, the students are cramped in the dorms like sardines in a can. Ghana used to have an educational system that was the envy of other countries. The high schools and universities were providing quality education. With an exploding population and limited funding, these schools are now struggling to educate their students. The educational system has also suffered in the past from different governments interfering with the system in the name of making changes, changes that only worked to weaken the system. Ghana should have started years ago giving all secondary and technical students half-tuition free education. All the money that went into the pockets of klepto-politicians and their cronies as well as money wasted on worthless projects could have been used to fund the education of these students without having to tax the public. Just imagine how many schools could have been built in every region with the money that Woyome defrauded Ghana. The country needs quality education, for compulsory education is just a start.

How do you enforce "compulsory", if you don't make eduction attractive, meaningful and fun for the kids to attend? Untrained teachers are making schools are very boring and boorish place to be.
I propose giving a tablet and a headphone to each and every kid in Ghana who attends school to be used for his or her learning. As is being done currently in Malawi of all places.

My biggest concern is that why is fail students from the secondary school in ghana who cannot enter university or polytechnics are allow to study at Teachers training collages to teach as teachers in our schools..Isn't it surprising that graduates end up on the street?, bcos how can the government allow a fail graduates teacher employs to be a teaching our children in schools.
In Germany only
academic well train graduates and professes are allow to be teaching as teachers in schools, thus why they have many engineers, technicians, doctors etc.
I suggests Teachers training colleges should b turn into vocational skills schools, And Polytechnics turns into Technical college/university.
And Teachers can be derived from the colleges and universities to ensure quality teaching education in our schools.
