Ghana's Education institutions would be totally collapsed under the administration of NDC incompetent fools led by the most hopeless and rapist Dramani Mahama.
What is the credibility of Okudzeto
Ablakwa to lead our educational sector? Ghana is doomed if we have someone such as Okudzeto Ablakwa as
a Minister of Education, Kwakye Ofosu
and Nii Lante Vanderpuije.
Ghana is finished.

John is himself the number one thief, so how can he discipline thieves. He has to steal to look after his 23 or so children. Therefore all hands on deck. All appointees must must take whatever they can grab. This man is simply unfit to be president.
Ghana will definitely be better off without John Mahama. The monies being given to our very stupid chiefs is stolen money. it is monies that should go to repair our roads.

Don't Convert POLY to University
That's all these ndc people know. They don't have any new, innovative ideas up their sleeve. They will create the need for such bogus technical universities. Trump up the budgetary finances and costs involved in setting up these technical universities. Then, you do the math..Chobology!
Do you know why we have community colleges/ polys and universities? Each serves a purpose in society you know. Use the Internet and do your research. Go.unto the website of any community college in North America and look at the programs they offer. The first is geared towards hands on learning like mechanic, hairdressing, automobile mechanic, furniture making, tailoring, lab/computer technician, air conditioning repair, hvac, radio/tv producer, chef, police foundations, nursing, etc. After 2yrs,.grads can use their credits unto university, get a job or start their own business. Look at the financial impacts on society? University education is more theory and research based. This is the system adopted in many western nations. So if you close.down all polys and turn them into university. You have automatically wiped out the chance for any learning of professional hands on training, job creation in the interim and the future. U want to train the Ghanaian populace to be technocrats, bureaucrats and theory/research grads.forever? U think you know better than educators in North America who have poly/community colleges and also universities? If it was in the best interest of their children and nation to close down all poly/community colleges and turn them into places of higher education like a university. Don't you think they would have done that long ago? If you want to more polys, universities just build more of them in the communities,.regions that don't have them. Soon, these ndc fools will.turn stadiums into airports, churches into markets, kantamanto into hospital and have the nerve to justify their actions. FOOLS! Abdul, a filthy imbecile like you have the nerve to call me stupid? Would maame tw3!

The idea of turning the Polytechnics into Technical universities is not a bad idea but the government idea of turning all ten Polytechnics into a university at a go in Ghana is not feasible. Where are the industries at Upper East,West, Volta, Northern, Central etc that can support the Technical students to get a hands on training?
Even Greater Accra and Ashanti regions, the two best developed regions in Ghana don't have enough industries that can provide the needed hands on training for these students.
The University of Science and technology at Kumasi don't even have modern technical centers to provide the hands on training for its mechanical, Electrical and other Engineering students to get needed training. What Industries are in Wa or Bolgatanga to train the Polytechnic University students there?
If anything at all, the government should start with Takoradi Polytechnic, the best Polytechnic school in Ghana first, then Kumasi and Accra Polytechnics.
This ostentatious government idea of turning all ten Polytechnics into universities will fail. We don't have industries at this time that can support ten Technical universities.

We have others at Vea, near Bolga, Botanga in the Kmbungu district whilst Gollinga is at Tolon district. There are several hundreds of small irrigation dams in UW, UR and NR. So please don't exhibit your ignorance. NDC go ahead and implement this laudable idea. This create a lot of jobs for people. NPP is afraid they would remain in opposition.

You're so right. Meddling in the secondary school system by government rendered a once highly-acclaimed educational system into a decaying one. The government should sit with educators and interested parties to ensure that there's an open forum on this issue before it's implemented. I see these guys at the Ministry of Education causing more headaches for Polytechnics. Instead of strengthening the schools with proper funding and resources, the government thinks turning them into universities will be seen as an elevation. But an elevation is only good in the book according to Sam George. The Ministry of Education should make its plans on the polytechnics' future open to public so that it may generate feedback.

Prof Atsu Ayee is an academician with no background in technical education. He, like most academicians in Ghana, is a hypocrite. There are countless number of his likes who are seriously lobbying the Mahama administration at the backstage to rescind the decision of establishing technical universities. If the failure of South Africa and UK cited is anything to go by, does it mean we should give up on oil and gas exploration just because black gold has become a curse to many nations. The fact is that technical education is deliberately suppressed in Ghana and so it is only the creation of technical universities in line with good examples from the USA and the Scandinavian countries will help provide the needed manpower to move Ghana to the next level of development. When government created academic institutions recently where was Prof Atsu Aryee? For instance, when the teacher training colleges were given tertiary status, there was no complain. When two new univerities( academic institutions) were created in the Eastern and Brong Ahafo Regions it was hailed as a noble idea. When Nurses training colleges were made diploma awarding institution that one was Hallelujah. Now that polytechnics are going to be upgraded to technical university level, hey, Hell is breaking loose. People want to use others as intellectual and career slaves at all cost, why. This pre-colonial slavery mentality that made some of our chiefs to sell their sons and daughters in exchange for dressing mirrors and bottles of alcohol is still in the minds of Ghanaians. We all know that when you go to the GES there is a very high shortage for science teachers and technical and vocational instructors. Why have our traditional university system not been able to fill that gap. Technical and vocation is an option and deserve to be offered even up to the PhD level.
Folks if you want to know why the academicians are afraid of technical universities then read what the experts say. ".... Vocationally oriented specialized education curricula can give the student a definite advantage in the job market. Besides the very focused course of study, specialized education programs often offer their students co-op or other work-related experience. Specialized education programs can often be completed in a shorter time than general education( academic education) programs, which can save a significant amount of money. Many working adults pursue specialized education programs to begin or resume their careers in the least possible amount of time.In a difficult economy, many less affluent students believe that a general education, especially in the humanities, is a luxury they cannot afford." So you see, academicians in Ghana are afraid of stiff competition from technical universities.

Usman you have not frame your concerns properly: it is not elite Academicians going against vocational and technical graduates that is of concern here, rather, it is about universities that will pursue studies and basic research that stand to enhance the development of our nation, and vocational/technical institutions, call them what you will, that will also seek the development of Ghana after graduating in two or three years in subjects like nursing, electronics, masonry, auto mechanic, metallurgy, plumbing and other non academic subjects. After the two years, if the student wants to transfer to further pursue his or her interest in a university that option will remain.
The Minister of Education should specify the missions of our academic universities and that of our ten technical universities, one for each region.
Abuakwa and those in favor of converting our polytechnics into universities must visit community colleges in the US to study their mission and see how they are managed and
how they function.

The reason for many shoddy indigenous construction jobs seen across Africa, is lack of recognition and respect for TRADES men. Quality skills don’t come cheap!! for instance, a fully qualified plumber in UK can not be classified as a mere pipes fitter or a drain cleaner but could be a heating engineer or electronic and electrical systems engineer etc, etc, you have to work with dangerous substances and gases, according to stand specifications and regulations. NASA in the US, for instance, is a MeGa STEMIC Institution with international industrial collaborations. Yes it would be expensive to fund and resource 10 Technical Universities at a go in Ghana, as in Germany but any effort to start them soon in phases, would be worth the sacrifice. Many a times people, due to miseducation don’t believe that it is possible for one person to have higher qualifications and skills in for instance, electricals and Plumbing but it is. We should stop limiting TRADES MEN, simply because of their outfits or how academicians and society perceives them , without advance Maths qualification and computing skills, you can not become a fully qualified plumber or electrician in UK because, the course structure and practical assessments involved would let you inn, Haba let’s try to be Hi-tec for once! I hope it is Technical Universities they are CRIDing and not mere bolt and nuts tightening Universities.

There is no need to make universities out of polytechnics; what have plagued polytechnics from inception have been the law that established them; also has been the problem of quality instructors and supporting staff with the requisite experience and exposure; inadequate infrastructure and equipment. Government could also have made the National Accreditation Board take a critical look at polytechnic education; as nation we need to go back to the drawing board to take a critical look at technical education in relation to the future development of our country; persons who go through polytechnic education could be enabled to acquire the highest qualification in their chosen profession in the polytechnic and not only by furthering their education in a university; polytechnics could be capacitated to mount practical course to the highest degree. If there is a problem with polytechnic education, fix it; after all we all know the kind of graduates our treasured universities are turning out. Are we not aware a university in Ghana that boast of a faculty of engineering, yet the professors in the faculty take their vehicles to non-graduate and uneducated mechanics because they have no practical experience in fixing their own cars; is this the kind of technical personnel we as a country wish to continue producing? What a shame... I thought polytechnic education was supposed to fix this problem. Government did not even consider technical schools as part of the 200 Senior High Schools is promised to build and is building; yet we all know students of the few technical schools in the country come out equipped to enter the job market; provide better polytechnics for them to further their education and the country will have the needed manpower to move forward.

In Germany only
academic well train graduates and professes are allow to be teaching as teachers in schools, thus why they have many engineers, technicians, doctors etc.
I suggests Teachers training colleges should b turn into vocational skills schools, And Polytechnics turns into Technical college/university.
And Teachers can be derived from the colleges and universities to ensure quality teaching education in our schools.
