Is that all about Dagaaba people marriage customs? It is an abomination in almost every culture for a married woman to sleep with another man except in few cultures where polyandry is practiced so this abomination is Dagbaani culture is not unique. Most Dagbaanis are Catholics and there seem to be a culture practice amongst Dagbaanis that is in conflict with Catholic practice.
What I was looking for the Writer to tell his readers about is how Alba Bagbin, who is a Dagbaani slept with a minor sister of his wife, made her pregnant and became his wife. Is that a Dagbaani culture that you can take your sister in law as a wife too?

Dagarti is a tribe in Upper West and I think an individual Dagarti is referred to as Dagaaaba, I stand to be corrected though. By the way most of our cultural practices(just as the various religious doctrines) are outmoded, primitive, unrealistic and too superstitious and, therefore, need total overhaul. We need to refine or recycle them to keep abreast with the realities of the civilized world. I nearly puked when I got to the point where a Dagaaba wife needs the permission of her husband before a lawful healthcare providers can subjected her to any form of physical examination even if physical examination even if the woman suffers a life threatening ailment. How on earth can the survival of a woman be in the hands some foolish and jealous husband? Anyways my best Ghanaian friend is a gynecologist par excellence but have vowed my wife can see any doctor in this world but not Dr. Afrifa. Can you imagine haven a close friend of yours you always share a drink with at a joint looking inside " them thing" of your wife in the name of physical examination? Not easy huh?

Dr SAS, for somebody who if I am not mistaking has no use for christianity or don't believe in Christianity or religion, your knowledge of the Bible is very impressive.
Now to your question about Jacobs marriage to two sisters, I bet that happened or the occurrence is recounted in the old testament part of the Bible like David putting the commander of his forces infront of the battle to get him killed so that he could take his wife as a wife of his own.
The Bible teaches us Christians that, the new testament came to rectify all the bad things that happened in the old testament.
My point is that, the fact that some people did it in the old testament does not make it right to do it now.
Hope the new year has been kind to you so far.

The new year has been very kind.....
I read the whole Bible at the age of sixteen, the Quran at twenty-three, The Book of the Mormons at twenty-five and the Baghavad Gita at twenty nine. After all these readings, I concluded that established religion is trash. And I have chosen to do the most good in my life. That now is my religion.
The problem with your answer is that Christians disavow the old Testament whenever something undesirable comes out of it, but run right back to it whenever something therein benefit them. For example this whole fallacy of tithes....
The point I am making with my first post is that a people's culture must be off the radar of criticism because cultures might be mutually spooky. For example, among the Akans, a person can actually inherit his brother or uncle's wife together with his property. That might sound quite reprehensible to others. So we can only be respectful of others' culture no matter how strange.

A very nice piece of valuable information.some readers have forgotten the highly patriarchal hegemony that exist amongst the dagaabas. Additionally, the cause of the calamities on the adulterous woman,it's believed originates from the secret ceremony done with part of the diary that confers the woman only to his husband. Some modern woman are also believed to have found an antidote to this important ceremony to neutralize the effect. Is it true?

The Dagaaba culture enumerated here is, to a very large extent, no different from that pertaining in many African societies. Among Akans for example, it is considered incestuous for people of the same clan to inter-marry...... So here, the culture just simply affirms the commonality of our origins and perceptions. Of importance is its oppressive consequences for women in general. There should be more equality and justice in the law for both women and men that go against their marriage vows.
But of personal interest to me is how to reclaim my Dagarti wife pledged to me by her family in 1975. In 1970, my mother's tenant named her child after her. Thereafter, my mother performed a certain ceremony to the child's parents that, in a sense, committed the child to be my wife in the future. In 1988,she became pregnant by another man. In 2015, I still feel cheated and want to fulfill my mother's dream of marrying that woman.
What relief is available to me under the Dagaaba cultural law?

What is his punishment in your culture, and why is it only women who society believe should be punished for transgressions in marriage.
