Really? How will we achieve this when we aren't allowed to use fast growing varieties? The gov is blocking the importation of better tilapia strains. What we use is like bush chickens compared to fast growing poultry.. We will not reach 130,000 tons in less than 15 years.

this is long overdue. We have
already lost the majority of fish species and the stock in the Volta Lake. Government must be committed to this laudable idea and consider replenishing the fish stock and so on. This program should not be limited to the Volta but also Lake Bosomtwi, Wedja and the rest. Government should formulate effective laws to regulate sustainable fishery in these water bodies.

Have we forgotten so soon the SADA, GYEEDA, RLG project that we used as conduit to buy votes in 2012?
Even if it starts with private/foreign investment it will still suffer the same fate.

A man and his newlywed check into a mountain resort by a lake. The desk clerk notices the "Just Married" sign still on the car. As soon as the man gets the luggage out of the car, he hops in a boat to go fishing. He is out all day, comes back for a quick supper, picks up his lantern and goes back out at night. This goes on for a couple of days when the man happens to stop by the desk. The clerk starts a conversation with the man and mentions his behavior. "I know it's none of my business, but I was wondering why you weren't having sex with your new wife." "Oh, I couldn't do that; she has gonorrhea." "Well, what about anal sex?" "Couldn't do that; she has diarrhea." "There is always oral sex." "Nope, she has pyorrhea{GUM DISEASE." "Wait a second. If she has gonorrhea, diarrhea, and pyorrhea, why did you marry her?" "That's easy. She also has worms, and I love to fish

They have no clue what this call to implement an aquaculture industry in Ghana means. I can testify to how they had failed since the late 1990s throughout the early 2000s to accept assistance some of us with connections to the Norwegian fish farming sector, the largest in the world, had managed to solicitate.
The Norwegians had helped to start and expand that business in Namibia after independence, as well as some other African countries. I think The Gambia too. I saw the advert for the start of the Namibian project and told the wife of one of the key experts to inform the husband, which led to their eventual relocation to Namibia. She said they met in Nigeria as NORAD and SIDA aides in 1962 and would like to retire in Africa with fond memories. Now, Ghana has been importing tilapia from Namibia while the Volta Lake fallows, and all Nkrumah's plan to introduce fish farming in forgotten! The Nile pike that was introduced under the CPP....?
The Norwegian experts practically begged to assist Ghana, thanks to a Ghanaian, Baba, then working in a key position as an administrator in the research and devt sector. I personally spoke to a then Dep. Director and what I got was that govt was no longer involved in business, presumably, "the private sector is the engine of growth," as the hollow catchphrase of both the NPP and NDC goes. If anyone anyone has connections to develop fish farming, then he can do it privately! Wow! This is a govt body offering to help transfer know-how to Ghanaians, and you blokes expect us or them to come down and recruit private people for them to do that, as we (or them) are not ready to go into fish farming our/themselves? Jokers! That was under the NPP!
Of course, Ghanaians are a bloody ignorant lot and so have no clue about the pivotal role the state plays in devt and developing the West, the Asian countries, and the fish farming biz in Norway! Tweah! Who is trying to ban this apt word to describe their mind-set.
let us see what they are going to do it!
