DR. BAWUMIA:-----------
“In the last six years, the NDC has borrowed US$27 billion. Before that, we, the NPP, borrowed a total of US$5.5 billion in eight years. Compare that to the NDC borrowing $27 billion in six years and ask yourself what they have done with all that money,” the running mate to Nana Akufo-Addo said.
He said, though a lot more money has been spent, it is a paradox of economic management that this level of excessive spending has only led to greater hardships being visited on the people.
“NDC inherited a public debt stock of GHS9.5 billion in 2009,” the former Deputy Governor of the central bank said. “Today, Ghana’s debt has gone up to GHS65.7 billion. So when I say the stakes are high I am talking about the destiny of our country, Ghana, the future of the youth.”
“The NDC has been taxing everything, including condoms and cutlasses. In terms of resources, this NDC government has had more resources than any other government. We did not have oil. Yet, Ghanaians know what we did with the limited resources we had. We spent money responsibly to create the NHIS, introduce Capitation Grant, expand access to education, we spent wisely on infrastructure and built more roads than any other government,” he said.

Even taxi drivers understand that the kind of government that we have is stupid. When prices on the wold market go up, we pay more at the pomp. When prices go down on the world market we still pay more. So what kind of economics and logic is Mahama teaching us in this country? The fact of the matter is that Mahama is such a bloody manipulator. The more one recalls the grandiose promises that he churned out before the election the more one is tempted to curse oneself for voting in 2012 at all.

Bobby, you are aware crude oil on the stock exchange is running at $70.00 to that of 130.00 last year this time. The price at the pump in the US is dropping like a stone-gravity. Why should Ghana government after syphoning all the money to themselves is increasing the prize of fuel instead slapping the public with an increase at while the whole world is cutting its price at the pump. This is a rip off. Taxis are working and giving their little profit to the government MP in charge to put into their pocket. Its is viable for taxi drivers to go on strike. Its too much of punishing the poor people.

Government should remove all subsidies on fuel, create sidewalks on our roads, promote bamboo bicycles, mass transportation system and make it difficult for the unserviced vehicles that choke the city. If people cannot afford the cost of fuel they will develop alternative means of survival- go to markets in your neighborhood and not drive to the center for everything. The government should also decentralize the ministries in such a way that one does not have to go to the center of Accra to do business. Registra general should go paperless so that one does not have to travel from villages to the center just to register a company. Ghana can be a better place.

Putting high VAT on petroleum products as a means of mobilizing tax for the country is rather unfortunate. We live in a country whereby we eat, breathe and drink corruption. If Government wants tax money to develop the country, then what they should do is to re-register of traders selling in building or shelters with roofing and assigned each with a VAT code that doubles as a bank account number. The government should then provide all these traders with electronic receipt purchasing machines that operates via wireless through internet protocols. In that way when any purchase transaction is made and a receipt is printed out, it comes with all details including VAT amount paid. The VAT amount will be automatically credited to the VAT registration number which doubles as bank account number. With this, the Internal Revenues can access the various accounts and know exactly how much VAT each trader has collected on behave of the Government. If this is done, government will get more tax money to develop the country instead of relying on poor drivers who will eventually transfer the cost to the ordinary already suffering Ghanaian. Without this measure, the most corrupt people in Ghana are the Internal Revenue Officials. They are operating behind shadows and pocketing monies meant for development. Do a background check and you will come to know that these tax officers owns fleet of taxis, commercial vehicles, lots of houses and other investments. A word to the wise is enough.
