If the government decides to increase the levy now, you would be the first to post condemning the government. You don't have to condemn every move by this government because you are not sympathetic to it. Mind you, those you are supporting to come to power have no magic wand to solve our legion of problems.

The Minister should not only tell us the gap but should also tell us how much if the statutory money was released year by year. We need these answers to assist find lasting solutions to the funding gap.

NDC has woken up to see thier folly in proposing a one time premium for the NHIS. They thought they could fool the illetrate population for long. Now their own folly is bitting them hard and they find it difficult to confront it. Their only solution is to bring up a Capitation system which implementation has rather worsen the situation and has caused some providers to collapse.
Where in this world do you think you can pay a Doctor less than the equivalent of $5 to see a patient? Not adding all other services that goes into caring for the patient???
Simply put, there need to be a gradual upward adjustment to the premiums payed by individuals and a lot of education with it. Secondary, 50% of the Yearly bonuses paid to Cocoa Farmers should be paid into the fund and Cocoa Farmers ad their families given cards that shows they are fully paid. Farmers day rewards should be chanelled to the NHIS and farmers given Certificates of appreciation. Thrdly, a better audit system should be in place to check hospital attendance, Doctors office attendance or health care usage. Fourth, the Stealling brigade of the NDC should be named and shamed and jailed for Sanity to prevail in the system. Fith, the Central Medical Stores should be scraped and individual hospitals and clinics allowed to purchase their own supplies. The Central Medical Stores have become a cash cow for politicians and civil servants which milks the NHIS. Many times anything that goes into that facility is close to expiration, and over invoiced.
