For the government to put soldiers in charge of NACOB will be an admission that the present government is unable to deal with corruption in NACOB. If government cannot deal with corruption in NACOB, then where can it deal with corruption? The military might as well take over government. The only solution is for Ghana to have laws that have real sharp teeth that even the president will fear.
We need people in jail with stiff sentences that are not subject to any change until they have done their time.
Presently, it is toothless, so corruption is just like a game to many Ghanaians, like those games we used to play when we were children...where they shoot you and you never die. When they catch you in corruption, pretend the law is doing something, change your coat and start somewhere all over again.

Chief, I agree with you that a new ministry is not required to deal with the energy crisis. Instead, the President should have sacked the minister for Energy who has failed and is incompetent. All what is required is effective and efficient Energy Minister with one deputy who will be responsible for power generation and distribution. How can there be separate ministries for Energy and Power? Is power not part of Energy? Waste of scarce resources.

The President should have sacked the MD of ECG long time ago also for incompetence. Until Mahama takes on incompetent ministers and heads of public institutions, his presidency will fail abysmally.

Corruption is a Ghanaian problem, the soldiers are even worse because they will in addition use intimidation to demand bribes. The soldiers on JJ's Vetting commission became rich overnight due to bribes they got from business men/women, some even married widows of soldiers and civilians killed during the revolution. Corruption thrives because there are no consequences -- no jail times, they simply fire them and that is not a strong enough deterrent.

Our experience with the quack neo-communists is that, they seize power unjustifiably through coups and counter coups, and Ghanaians only suffer dictatorship, tyranny, corruption and economic mismanagement under them. Being in power now for six years, the NDC has failed again to improve the economy simply because their fundamentals are wrong. In fact, they don't have what it takes to salvage the sinking economy.

Under normal circumstances, political parties are formed to produce leaders democratically. But in the case of NDC, a tyrant created the party with state power and resources to legitimize his illegitimate regime and cling to power fraudulently. NDC is therefore, an artificial and illegitimate party followed by stomach politicians and sycophants.

Mr. David Agbee the Executive Director for Ghana Institute of Governance & Security, the so-called Security Analyst himself, must be let go for lacking prudent proposal to combat the emerging narco-enterprise.

NACOB should be run by men and women who are patriotic, full of integrity, incorruptible, and with no blemish whatsoever in their being.

If we can't find a civilian in Ghana who has these qualities, then we are in big trouble.

Please give us a break. Were there no drug traffickers during the military regimes?
I am honestly getting fed up with all these persons who have the media platform and masquerade as analysts? Some of them are worse than those who are creating these problems. Clearly, his analysis deficit is showing here.
The problem we have in this country of ours is enforcement, simple and short. We need fearless and selfless people who are ready to enforce the laws and regulations.
We do not need people who would massage the problems.
NACOB requires resources to function. Whoever cares to know must understand that drug enforcement agencies are well resourced and funded institutions. The NACOB we have now is pitifully underfunded. Staff there are literally volunteers. Are we serious?

I will urge David Agbee to read the constitutions of the very nations Ghana desperately seek to emulate and may just realize the Armed Forces in those nations are not involved in domestic law enforcement but there to protect the nation against foreign enemies.

If ineffectiveness and or corruption is at the root of NACOB problems then trust me if I say the Armed Forces are a reflection of the larger society and will be no better if not worse. For carrying the logic to its ultimate conclusion would advocate military rule as well since the political parties have not been able to move Ghana past where we were prior to the 1966 coup.

Prof Atta Mills visited Tema Harbour and saw the rot, so he replaced the head of CEPS with a military General. Nothing changed. So the General has also been fired. Infact it would be better then to call back JJ Rawlings. After all the Presidency would also need a military man. But it was during JJ's time that a Ghanaian diplomat, Frank Benneh was caught with cocaine in Switzerland!

David Agbee, as Executive Director for Ghana Institute of Governance and Security, I think you should have a good memory or at least a good knowledge of the history of the security of how Ghana`s borders were secured or guarded. Ghana`s borders inncluding the airport and seaports were managed by borders who after passing out as soldiers were given a special training as border guards. The Ghana Border Guards was dissolved by Rawlings` PNDC in the late 80s and the pesonel reabsolved in the Ghana Armed Forces to fight corruption at Ghana`s borders. David Agbee as an Executive Director for Ghana Institute of Governance and Security therefore owes Ghanaians a responsibility of coming out with a solution as to how best to stop corruption at the country`s borders instead of replacing the trained personel at Ghana`s borders with soldiers who are not trained in looking for smuggled good at our borders.

The war to protect Afghanistan poppy fields were lead by NATO generals, who helped to arm the Mudhahedins and later the Talibans.
It is on record that whiles NATO was occupying Afghanistan the drug lord of that country was the brother of the Afghan president.
The first war between the U.S., Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and Mauritania were for the U.S. to occupy the ports of North African countries and to use them to export opium from Afghanistan, through Turkey into South East Asia.
Lack of scholarship is the bane of many Ghanaian intellectual because they fail to research and issue before writing on it.

Kwame,ayikoo,I support you as soldiers are not Angels.They are human beings like civilians when they undress themselves,whenever they close from work to their various residences they are no more soldiers.They can be more corrupt than civilians when they see money fiili fiili.I will rather congratulate Nana Akrasi Sarpong for being the executive secretary on the board for a very long time and had not been directly involved with this cocaine business.Government should not be advised to use soldiers to fight the cocaine cartels in Ghana since it has not being successful in the source countrys it emanated when the USA got its soldiers involved in fighting the cocaine dealers with millions of Dollers, still unsuccessful war against planting and production of cocaine in Bolivia, Mexico, Afganistan and all countrys involved.Government should be able to heavily punish people who are caught in this money making but dangerous business.

What a ridiculous assertion by this so called security analyst...where in the world do soldiers run security apparati at international airports which are essentially gateways to nations? Soldiers are incorruptible? Where was this guy in the 70s and 80s when soldiers run roughshod over the nation? Instead of placing these khaki-clad goons at the KIA, the government should overhaul the whole NACOB and hire competent and incorruptible individuals whose patriotism overrides everything else....it is a psychological thing...Ghanaians are so corrupt they will sell their mothers for money...it is a herculean task ahead but somehow the government has to find a way to recruit honest Ghanaians.....

To call himself a security analyst, then come up with such a recommendation only tells my how title happy we are. Absolute rubbish!

What happened when the various military regimes, headed by military officers, run the country during one coup after another? Did they not drag the nation backwards while silencing the public? You're free to invite the military to run your household, if you so choose, but certainly not to have the military be placed in charge of NACOB.
