Those in the rural areas who produce cocoa, gold, shea butter, yam, plantain, coffee, diamonds hold the economy. the government needs to diversify the supply of electricity instead of relying so heavily on Akosombo. Frank, the sun and the wind are in abundance but we still rely on God to provide us with more rain before we can get electricity and now we have to rely on Nigeria to supply us gas before we get power while God has already provided us power through the sun and the wind but we failed to take advantage of that.
In states like Colorado and Kansas they rely heavily on Renewable Energy and we all remember how right after Obama won the election he travelled to Denver to launch his job creation initiative using Renewable Energy as one of the areas to create jobs but if you invite these our officials to come and meet investors and learn how these people are doing it they will not show up,they will not even mind you.
Drive through these areas to see how they have taken advantage of the sun and the wind to generate power.
We have a long way to go.

Rural electrification is a must. In fact it must be the priority for government to set up rural industries for processing tomatoes, cassava, plantain, ginger, peanuts, etc. for export, instead of getting rot on the farmlands. Why govt. will decide to invest in free range akomfem projects is complete madness considering the savannah region can produce huge amounts of rice for local consumption and export. This is what government is put in place to do. These ideas will create a lot of job opportunities for the people and income for the government. For Christ sake, government should stop this BORROWING AND TAXATION bullshit. They are paid to think, but unfortunately, they would rather steal because common sense is not common to them. And of course the fault is the president's. How do you appoint a hard rock geologist who has no administrative experience whatsoever as Chief Director of the Ministry of Energy, just because he is a Northner and you want all major posts to go to Northners?
Kuffuor sourced the financing for both the Bui Dam and the Gas Plant at Bonyere. It could have been completed in 2010, but Wofa Ata was conned into moving the gas plant to Atuabo, so his NDC rogues could also "chop." The Bui Dam contract had to be delayed so idiots like Asiedu Nkasei can make cement block for it and charge 400% the going rate.
My poor mother's cocoa proceeds are taxed at 80%. You don't think she deserves to benefit from electricity in Ghana, when parasites who produce absolute damn all are benefiting from it? Wait till we all throw our lot into Election 2016!

Since time immemorial the VRA has used this LOW WATER LEVEL Excuse. It appears it has left the solution to God to provide rain at all times and things have not worked that way because God does not work that way.
It is an ENGINEERING issue. The first thing that comes to my mind is where does all the water go after it has been processed by the turbines?
Can VRA not deploy a Combination of Water Pumps to re-direct the water back into the dam? It may not be much but it can certainly slow down the rate of drop in the water level and may allow a fifth turbine to be turned on.
This is only a layman's thought.
But since God is not doing it the way it should work for the dam, we have to fall on the brains he gave us and also find out what happens in other Hydro Dams in similar instances for solutions. Do you get my drift?

Mfantse,
The solution for the water problem was identified by Prof Mawusi Dake around 1986! The Akosombo Dam has been silted for decades. In a good rainy year, less than 45% of its original capacity received water for generation, even before Burkina Faso built two dams on the Black Volta?
Prof Mawusi Dake suggested building two smaller desilting dams on the main source of the Akosombo Dam, so they would take the silt, to be cleared for block making from time to time. Then he fell out with the idiot Jerry Boom and Jerry threw out that noble suggestion.
And since them VRA engineers have been so politicised none of them has had the guts to confront successive governments with this simple but very effective scheme that has helped Kenya to generate 60% of its national requirement from much smaller rivers.
The fault indeed is not with the gods, but with our rogue, idiotic and criminal leaders!

President Mahama is absolutely right in sacking the ECG boss. The government is not obliged to explain their thinking to anybody as long as the decisions taken were in the interest of Ghanaians that voted them into power. The ECG boss was said have been on leave while the entire nation was being thrown into total darkness. Demonstrations and resentments engulfed the entire nation with vandalisations of ECG equipments in Accra and everywhere else and, the police had to issue warnings and threatened arrests if ECG equipments were no longer safe from vandalisation by agitated youth. Given the ECG does not produce electricity but are mere distributors of quantum of power supplied them by GRIDCO, VRA etc. Is it not reasonable for ECG boss to reason alongside the government which is under intense pressure to restore normalcy and, for him to have shown commitment to his job at this critical moment and to call off his holiday and solidarise with his employers and be more concerned by the crisis than remain silence while on leave when his organisation the ECG is in flame. I think Mahama has done the right think by re-assigning him to the ministry where he'll basically have to deal with files and relax until he retires. He certainly has failed as an Executive Officer of ECG moreso when he doesn't even know when to come out of comfort to show concern to widespread of discomfort Ghanaians were going through.

The problem we have in this country is that people do not get their facts right before they open their mouths wide!IDEC should find out the real reasons why Hutton-Mensah was sacked. As a matter of fact, Hutton-Mensah should have been sacked since last year for INCOMPETENCY AND CORRUPTION! In ECG, it is an open secret that Hutton-Mensah, from day one, has never been on top of the job because he lacks the leadership skills required for the job. It was the monkey-faced ALLOTEY-JACOBS and SAMUEL CUDJOE, the so-called lawyer who put Hutton-Mensah there as a conduit to plunder ECG. For the 3years Hutton-Mensah was in ECG, he never added any value to the company. His mismanagement actually dwindled the fortunes of the company to the extent that ECG IS SERIOUSLY BROKE. Even if the power supply from VRA reduced, did he manage the little he got properly. When was the last time IDEC saw ECG'S load management schedule in the papers? or heard anything on load management in the electronic media? Hutton-Mensah was only interested in signing shoddy contracts for his cut. He did not care about the job itself because he lacks the acumen. The President is not obliged to tell the public why he sacked Hutton-Mensah because when he was appointing him he did not explain to the public or IDEC for that matter, the reasons why he was beingappointed. Let me give you just one of the rot under his tenure. Hutton-Mensah would use ECG resources to buy plane ticket to Kumasi or Takoradi only to go and open a customer service center and sleep in a hotel for three nights. A ceremony which lasted for only one hour. As if that was not bad enough,he would ask his driver to drive the company's landcruiser empty to meet him in either Kumasi or Takoradi to drive him around town and drive back the empty vehicle to Accra while he himself flew back to Accra.Meanwhile the company has equally good vehicles in those locations. Such trips occurred at least three times every other week. Because he was doing this one of his Directors, Lawrence Osei-kufour also started doing the same thing. What kind of management is this? If it were your own company, would you tolerate this waste? Look, we need to be serious and hold our leaders accountable. Why would an MD create such a waste? There are lots and lots of instances and now that Hutton-Mensah has been sacked, all the information will spill into the public domain very very soon I promise you. HUTTON-MENSAH IS GOOD RIDDANCE TO VERY BAD RUBBISH!
Hutton-Mensah is so incompetent that he will surely expose himself at the Ministry. You wait and see for yourself. He is A THIEF who is only interested in lining his pockets without shame. I wonder what he preaches as a REV. God himself will deal with him in HIS own way. Stay tuned.

The spilled of blood of the innocent President Mills is why all these curses has come on NDC. NDC thought if they allow Prof Mills to live they might loss power as it was said by their founder; so they planned and killed him. The fruit is what the Nation is harvesting. Until the cause of death of President Mills comes out properly NDC led Gov't will always bring curse to the Nation. If in November there is no water in Volta Lake to generate power then where is the Nation heading to? Count all the things initiated and failed by this NDC Gov’t. You don’t need any Prophet to tell you that there is curse on NDC. Look they are putting their hope in IMF bailout, it is also going to fail them, watch and see. They will not give the money to them to use it for their 2016 election campaign to continue their mismanagement of the Great Nation which all the Whites believed that it is the gate way to Africa. Do you think they are happy about how NDC has managed the economy? President Kuffour put all the structures in place for you to come and continue rather you have spoiled every social intervention NPP Gov’t built. IMF will never give any Gov’t money during her election period. Where is the HIPC fund? Where is the NHIA fund? If your own people have contributed money for you to use it for their health care and you cannot manage it for its purpose how can you manage and pay the money IMF will give you? Do you think they don’t know what is happening in the affairs of Ghana? IMF is prepared to work with a serious Gov’t not less minded NDC Gov’t.

You see the Mahama NDC gov't doesn't get it. It just doesn't get it.
For a gov't that has promised Ghanaians on numerous occasions that dumsor, dumsor is a thing of the past, which even before they came into power in 2009, was on their lips to be a thing of the past, when Haruna Iddrisu was making an analogy between what they were going to do and what the NPP had not done with respect to the popular phrase "adumadum adumdum no b3 gya3" on the floor of parliament, one would have expected that, having failed to address the "adumadum adumdum", they would have resigned with alacrity. They would have resigned pronto. However, what do we see, a Ministry of Power is on the verge of being established or has been established by a fiat, to ostensibly address the "adumadum adumdum", a very propagandist approach to the issues, coupled with the termination of the ECG Boss.
In these times of the Mahama NDC gov't's looting and thievery which has necessitated austerity measures across the length and breath of the country, to try and plug the gapping and intractable hole of the Mahama NDC gov't's looting and continuous thievery, the establishment of a Ministry of Power, and the sacking of the ECG Boss, was the most ridiculous decision ever, that even the Caveman would not do it.
Clearly, what should be happening is the Mahama/Amissah Arthur NDC gov't resigning en bloc, and saving Ghana from their continual reckless decisions and incompetence coupled with looting and thievery, which has made it an absolute impossibility for funds to be advanced towards the generation of electric power, for it to be transmitted by GRIDco, for onward distribution by ECG.
Clearly the Mahama NDC gov't has missed the plot and needs to be sacking itself at the speed of light.
