It would be useful for the IFS to examine Dr Duffuor's stewardship of the economy as Governor of the BoG and as Minister of Finance.

There are important lessons to be learnt therefrom. After all, Charity begins at home.

The advise of the minister is worthwhile. The reason is that it is only when we work together as a people that we can get our faltering economy on a sound footing. Nevertheless, the failure of the economy to take off can be laid at the feet of government functionaries. The reason is that they have put so many bottlenecks in the way of investors who could possibly help the economy to move forward. There is so much extortion from these government functionaries who we have put in positions to lead the country on the right path. In the US State of Colorado for example if one wants to start any business all the person needs is $50 if he registers his company in person and 50cents if he does it online. Unfortunately in Ghana to start a business you have to pay a mandatory fee of not less than $30,000.00 to a shameless government official before he will sign your permit to start the business. If ministers were to do this in the USA or Canada they will serve long prison sentences. If we do not weed out extortion from governance in Ghana it will be difficult to move the economy forward. We need independent prosecutors who will prosecute corrupt government functionaries. The second problem we face is cronyism that result in putting wrong people in positions. There are more others that should be tackled before we can talk about economic growth as a nation.

It was under the tenure of Kwabena Duffour that judgment debt, judgment debt things was put on the looting fast-track, which amongst other things have collapsed the country. Would be interesting to know the economic principles behind such a development model.

He implemented the single spine salary scheme. The economy grew at the fastest rate in the world under his stewardship.

And he would not draw a salary during that time.
