Short of selling ECG to private buyers to manage it like all the other state entities sold under Kufour for pennies on the dollar, there is nothing that can be done to entice wise men and women to invest in ECG. The history and data sheet on ECG and consumers of electric in Ghana. starts with a national government that has not, cannot and will not pay its own electricity bills on time and or consistently. It is followed by consumers who want everything for free and if they cannot get it for free will steal and cheat on illegal connections. This fiasco is compounded by an ECG staff that wants to ride in some of the most expensive trucks and cars in the world even while unable to meet demand from customers, pay its oil bills from suppliers and have nothing in their rainy day fund for capital improvements of serious maintenance program.
.
But all our problems pale in comparison with our inability to easily locate property address just it is difficult to stamp out corruption. For it is the national government through its elected representatives who chose to decentralize national planning and development scheme in a huff but failed to grasp the realities that Ghanaians are first and foremost lawless and truly corrupt. Without government complete and absolute control of land delivery, planning development no government or private entity can implement an honor payment transaction system that is required for the successful outcome of a credit payment system of utilities or other purchases of any kind. Who then is stupid to invest in a white elephant incapable of change or accepting of wise counsel or outside controls?

I hope the CEO of GIPC focus on attracting foreign investors to take up the slack in Ghana's energy demand does not mean her junketing around the Globe to earn per diem in dollars nor for her Xmas shopping. The solution to Ghana's energy poverty requires a 'sitdown' analysis of the country's energy requirements, available resources and infrastructure, as well as an established ENERGY POLICY, so that the prospective investor has available the full facts that will attract that investor, foreign or local, (AND WITH TODAY'S CONCEPT OF CROWD FUNDING, IT SHOULD BE POSSIBLE FOR A GROUP OF INDIGINOUS INVESTORS TO BE ASSEMBLED FOR THIS PURPOSE; AFTER ALL THE GOVT HAS BEEN PREACHING TO US ABOUT BUYING MADE IN GHANA. THAT EQUALLY APPLIES TO HAVING LOCAL FINANCIERS.) to invest in the energy sector in Ghana.

What has Kuffour got to do with your analysis? What did we get from the Nsawam cannery sale? How many jobs have those investors created? Didn't borrow from the government to make that purchase? Was it proper for the wife of the sitting head of state to to be involved in that deal? What about Wenchi Tomacan? Those assets are lying rotten in Wenchi as I write. Why has it been neglected? Who sold our national shipping line, Black Star Line, and for how much? Who sold Ghana Telecom to the Malaysians and for how much? Who bought Ghana telecom back and for how much? Who sold Ghana Telecom to Vodafone and for how much?
Please be objective and come up with solutions to help the country. Blaming the Ashantis, Gas, ewes, Northerners and Kuffour is very dumb and needless. Blaming Kuffour alone for our problems doesn't solve anything. JJ Rawlings is not the saint you implicitly believe he is.
Don't you know that our young ones are brought up on the firm foundation of lies and corruption in the family. Charity begins at home. I do not believe a union/national government will bring any resolution to our predicament. Our thinking must change in all areas of our lives. Unless that happens I am not prepared to commit any money into the ECG for the government to put their cronies to mismanaged that entity.

Well I think there is a much more better way of dealing with this. if the most use of the electricity is by domestic, then I think we can fix this in much more shorter period and this is my idea. Instead of bringing in Generators(so called thermal-plants), we should focus on solar power and storage companies who can provide a much more decentralize power for only domestic use. This companies should be able to finance this project while distribution companies modernize their feed-in system from this solar companies to receive power during the day. Government(GIPC) job is to work with banks to provide long term RE financing for home owners. We really don't need to spend money to bring in money. We need to think smart, be strategic and be daring in doing something new. GIPC and ministry of energy should lead a massive campaign for domestic solar use and smart grids.
