Ghana lost the chance of learning how to be creative, hard-working and productive when the Danquah-Busia group of morons disrupted the far-reaching programs of the Nkrumah govt industrial program.
The vast infra-structure of state enterprises, Workers Brigade, Young Pioneers and nationalist education facilities were all established and aimed at introducing, stimulating and nurturing the African, whose mind had been stunted and distorted by many centuries of capitalist/colonial oppression, to once again begin to think for himself and do big things for himself to catch up with the rest of the world and prove that we are all capable of achieving great things for ourselves.
One does not need to undertake any kind of research to arrive at this conclusion. One only needs to look back at the quality of professionals, artisans, tradesmen, social services and the management of public infrastructure that was put in place and which rendered at the time, impeccable services to the newly independent people of Ghana.
Failing that, one just needs to look around us in the public domain at the surviving remains of the glorious days of the 1st Republic of Ghana which were all initiated and undertaken by true-blood Ghanaians. To think that some of these were established over 60 years ago in Ghana is in itself mind-boggling.
These include, the Akosombo Dam for producing hydro-electricity up to today, the Kwame Nkrumah Conference Center, the Black Star Square, The once elegant Tema township, the Tema Harbour, the Universities of Cape Coast, KNUST, Legon and GIMPA, the many hundreds of Polytechnics, secondary schools, primary schools, Training Colleges, the hundreds of State Enterprises, the Ghana Military establishment, the Black Star Shipping lines, Ghana Airways, the Police Service, the Fire Service, the Immigration Services and so on and so forth.
Bluntly put, many decades after the overthrow of the Kwame Nkrumah govt, the remaining undamaged and unspoiled monuments of that era are what to a large degree, still barely sustains the sinking country that we live in today.
Since that apocalyptic destruction of the emerging Ghanaian economy in 1966, all that we have been doing at best, is to buy and sell - and even that, we cant compete well because some fools think that we can run a capitalist economy in a country that thrives on hand-outs - even for elections. Of course such people are the products of the post-Nkrumah educational system aided and abetted by a few greedy and desperate opportunists from that era.
It is indeed painful to realize that over 50 years after independence, capitalist-style corruption has replaced nationalism and we have therefore fallen to such low depths of shame and ineptitude that, we cannot produce our own tooth-picks, matches and cutlery - much more appropriate furniture for our large institutions.
If I had to spend good money to buy furniture, of course I wouldn't buy made-in-Ghana furniture - or for that matter anything. Neither would anybody who sweated to get his money and who has any sense in his head, do so. I can understand why the priests from the Christian conference cant understand this. This is why sometimes, people say that they should not encroach or stray into real life situations.
And it is not only furniture producers that cannot deliver. The same inferior products and services are offered when you contract the services of our medical doctors, tailors, accountants, architects, painters, engineers, carpenters, plumbers, drivers, economists, landscapers, electricians and the worse of all - lawyers and politicians.
Im afraid that unfortunate as it sounds, we will have to stick to the imported Chinese and Italian furniture for the Parliament complex if pragmatic reasoning will prevail. In serious capitalist thought and practice, it is money that matters most and not nationalistic sentiments.
It may make sense if one has to order two or three pieces of Ghanaian made furniture for domestic purposes or for a small office, but even then, by the time you get your order, you would have had a heart-attack from persistent delays, endless deception and shoddy work.
If we say we want to practice capitalism, let us do so seriously. No capitalist individual or state, will use hard-earned money to buy dubious goods of questionable nature which are not worth the money he is using to pay for them.

NPP is full of vuvuzela empty heads. This MP never opens his smelly mouth without uttering shameful words. He calls himself a "businessman" and jet he runs down all businessmen in Ghana so that should include himself as well. He is a law maker and the best he can do is to admit that the chairs are inferior and even knows that the contractor bought inferior chairs in order to make some money. He has not brains to know that he should have been asking parliament to investigate the matter publicly and bring the offender to book. Such useless people are the bane of our country.

Our entrepreneurs are mainly buy and sell entrepreneurs. We are where we are today because we import tooth picks and old panties worn by "home use". How can we be importing these things now after attaining independence more than 50 years ago. Unfortunately the major importers and distributors are well connected in government (since independence) and want quick bucks so the quickest way is to import and create jobs abroad. These are the very people who shout the most about unemployment and decline in the standard of living. How do we break away from this circle of deception and making quick money syndrome?

Political Parties in Ghana and in most African countries are aware of this "disease" that the Hon. MP. talks about. When you give some Ghanaians work to do to be paid, they use this same job you have given them as a weapon against you. Can you imagine, you have to keep begging them as if they are doing you a favor.
Send these same people abroad and they will do even less menial job with such efficiency and effectiveness you will never believe. Indeed it is like a disease. We seem to be our own worst enemy. Because of this people with some Ghanaian workers if one of the national parties wants to deliver some infrastructure project on time in order to demonstrate what they have will not bother to give such a contract to a Ghanaian contractor for fear that they will totally disappoint them.
Sometime you wonder what is wrong with the black man.
We are always looking at the money first before we even do the work. What we need to do is to rather focus on delivering a top quality product or service to our client and on time and not to worry for a moment about the money. There is a need to change our attitudes towards work. As they say, people who really work hard and do quality work will never want for money. The money will by all means, flow to them.
All you need to do as a country, is to do excellent work when given the opportunity, and I can assure that you will never go hungry or be needing money. A job well done will always put you on the next job, and the next job, and the next job etc.because people who render excellent service or deliver quality product to, will always remember you because of how you have made them feel. Therefore if you do top quality work, you make your clients feel happy and they will not only remember you all the time, but they also referral and thereby grow your business in no time.

Unfortunately, high quality standards have given way to unacceptable mediocrity in the majority of things our workmen and women produce.
I wish Kennedy Agyepong introduce a bill in parliament to make the Hwemudua symbol a symbol of examination, perfection and quality control.
