This report, in fact, mentions only 2 tribes in the Upper West Region. Sadly, this can be attributed to the decline in the educational system with the introduction of the JSS and SSS systems. In the good old days when we had the middle school system you would not have people spewing out such ignorance and nonsense. All the same one would have expected Bagbin and Kumbour who come from one of the tribes mentioned to have been at the forefront of the eradication of this practice.

The human rights(MR.Dery) did a marvelous job on explaining the intricacy of this cultural identity of this documented proud people of Upper West Region. Thank you one more time Mr. Dery for your suffocated knowledge of this traditional cultural values.
Changes in life and traditional values is good, but when it comes to the identity of a culture, and Methodism we need to take a stoic glance at certain issues before any action is taking. I am not sure if the human right department can schemed their way through with force( Ghana laws) to solve or eliminate this cultural entrenched norms by the people. Yes!! any move on the direction with force will meet the 12 round bout with bovine intensity by the people.
The fight I am talking is not going be open and physical in nature. They will ignore the Ghana laws and do their thing in a subtle way. My opinion is this, in order to devitalized this cultural practice, the human right needs to work with the Land Lords, the chiefs, the churches and schools. These organs can provide the needed education to the people(parents) and the victims who are the girls. If not the multiplying villainous of this practice will continue unabated in the region for sometime to come.
