Contracting a Chinese company to refurbish and instal electronic gadgets in our august house raises a serious concern. China has invaded and is still invading the economies of African countries including Ghana. It is also known for cyber crimes since US has, on several occasions, accused it for hacking into American classified data.
With all these incidents, the Parliament of Ghana awarded a contract to a Chinese company to instal electronic gadgets in its main chamber. These gadgets will be used in the day to day deliberations of the house and even for voting on issues of great importance to Ghana. Taking into account the capacity of China to hack into US government information alongside its interest in Ghana, it is highly probable that it will install software programs that will enable them monitor, or at worst, control, the deliberations in the house.

Anyway, just for argument sake - why was the contract for the residence for the Head of State offered to the Indians whilst there are competent Ghanaian architects, engineers, masons, and other building experts and companies etc in Ghana?
Why do we continue to contract and give preference to expatriates instead of engaging our own Ghanaian experts?
Why do we encourage foreign banks e.g Barclays, Standard Chartered to operate in Ghana instead of encouraging and maintaining Ghanaian banks including Ghana Commercial Bank?
The debate therefore is- is COMPETITION good for the economy and when should any country put tariffs on imported goods?
