We have rice in Ghana. Why don't we eat local rice and locale staple than expecting the government to import rice to the tune of USD.1 billion. That money could have built factory's for the stupid graduate to get job. I can think why we are so stupid, that's why we continue to be foolish to others and they take that chance to bully black Africans.

"Stupid graduate".... I think you are a stupid illiterate... individuals import rice not the govt...., Ghana is not a communist country. If you have ever studied economics, granted you haven't, you will understand laissez faire....... before you make stupid comments, try and read a bit about international trade before you spew your garbage. The importers pay a crucial role, in sustaining the Ghanaian economy. The only thing the govt can do to help the farmers stay competitive is to give the farmers subsidies.

Stop thinking RICH overnight at the expense of hard-working Ghanaians; stay competitive and stop complaining. The attitude here is comparable to
asking the leadership to subsidize rice production; it's money which could see the prize of PETROL inched-up!

There must not be a senseless pursuit of outright ban on import of rice. The emphasis must be building and augmenting capacity locally. Thus, when the adequate levels are reached, placing a ban might not be even necessary. There will simply be enough good-quality rice to satisfy local demand.

THE DOCTORS HERE ARE TOO BUSY GOING ON STRIKE TO NOTICE THE MOST IMPORTANT SERVICE THEY CAN RENDER TO THE COUNTRY,
INSTEAD OF RISKING RETALIATION, AFTER BANNING ANY COMMODITY, THE POLITICIANS SHOULD BE MORE PATRIOTIC, AND STOP TRYING TO DESTROY THE NATION WHEN THEIR PARTY IS NOT IN POWER.
FIRST THE AGRICULTURISTS MUST TELL THE DOCTOR THE EFFECT OF CHANGE IN SOIL AND CLIMATIC ENVIRONMENTS ON PLANTS.AND ALSO EXPLAIN TO THE DOCTORS THE EFFECT OF APPLICATION OF STRANGE NUTRITIONAL PRACTICES ON HUMANS AND OTHER ANIMALS ALIKE.
I HAVE STOPPED EATING STRANGE PERFUMED AND POLISHED RICE AND NOW I EAT ONLY GROWN IN GHANA RICE, I FEEL GOOD, MANY OF THE BIG MEN WHO WERE VERY HEALTHY BEFORE THEY ACQUIRED THEIR NEW STATUS, WERE EATING THE NATURAL FOODS THEY WERE WEANED ON, BUT AS SOON AS THEY GET RICH, THEY BECOME CONSTANT VISITORS TO HOSPITALS ETC. BECAUSE OF STRANGE FOREIGN FOODS. OUR ATTITUDE HAVE TO CHANGE, WHEN YOU DEVIATE FROM YOUR NATURAL FOOD HELPED TO GROW BY YOUR ENVIRONMENT YOU RISK HAVING LOTS OF STRANGE DISEASES. THE DOCTORS CAN HELP TO EDUCATE PATIENTS ON THIS FACT!!!!

Mr Ansah and his likes are the reason why Ghana is not developing. There is absolutely no reason why we should continue to import rice while there is ample arable land and farm hands that can produce it.A short fall should motivate Ghanaian to take up farming instead of waiting for rice from India and china to arrive to feed them. Why is it going to be difficult for Ghanaians to produce the quality of rice they need to feed themselves. Go to Nigeria, they have banned rice for years and they have become used to eating the local rice they produce. People like Mr Ansah are worried about the kickbacks they get from rice importers.

Whose money is used to import the rice? Wat about tin tomaoes, chicken and the other stuffs. Dont we have the fertile land for all these? lets be frank, wont we have boxes of rotten tomatoes from Akumadan but still import these items. Who decide wat type of rice others should eat? This is wat happen wen politicians kills the companies of individuals they perceive as their political opponents. Darko farms, Appiah Minkah and many more were successful in their field but J.J and co killed their companies. Thousands of Ghanaians have the money to invest in rice production but your sucess would depend on which party is in power. Stop these communist inferoir tactics. Open up the market, give rice farmers insentives and let the public decide which typeof rice they would like to eat. Dont impose these unfiltered dirty local rice on us while you politicians enjoy your perfumed rice.

This is absolutely ridiculous. I am appalled by these unwarranted santions being imposed on Ghanaians by this government. What happened to competion? You can't monopolize your way into making things work in Ghana. I don't think I should be restricted in anyway in making choices. If I have the means and can afford to import rice from the USA or any other country, I feel I should be allowed to do so. In the same token why don't you ban the importation of all foreign goods. Stop this hypocracy and use common sense.
