  This was initiated by Japan when people became sick twisted bodies and looked like skeletons but alive around the city of Minamata where heavy industrial pollutants were released as was waste into rivers and ocean and people begun to get very sick from what was later discovered as mercury . It totally changed a generation ogmf Japanese and shock waves into society.
