The proposals put forward by IEA for constitutional reforms are the best possible way of strengthening our democracy. Anybody criticizing or unwilling to accept them must have some myopic and self-serving agendas that are not in the interest of Ghana and its development. Our weak institutions can easily produce a "constitutional dictatorship" difficult to get rid of.
Those who have genuine alternative ideas and views regarding the proposals should come out clean and tell Ghanaians what they have, and not hide behind to sabotage their adoption. These proposals in our view could reduce partisan politics and strengthen democracy and the rule of law in our country if adopted. On the other hand, if we dare reject them or drag our feet, we will continue to grope in darkness with disastrous consequences.

In conclusion, the President’s power to appoint the Chairman and Members of the EC is merely a ministerial one. The substantive power of appointment is assigned to the Council of State. The President shall act on the advice of the Council of State means the President is barred from the nomination, vetting and selection process. Those who framed the Constitution were keenly aware of the impropriety inherent in allowing the President, a political player, to play a critical role in selecting the political referee. Nevertheless, out of deference for the office of the President, the framers allowed him, as the Chief Executive Officer, the honour of “appointing” the candidate selected by the Council of State. In this case, all the President is required to do is to issue the appointment letter under the Presidential seal but no more.

Author:-Mahmoud...If we may ask, is the NDC new party school another communist ideological institution? The Young Pioneers implanted by Nkrumah in our midst did more harm than good to the development of this country when they usurped power from 1972 to 2001.
Our experience with the quack neo-communists is that, they seize power unjustifiably through coups and counter coups, and Ghanaians only suffer dictatorship, tyranny, corruption and economic mismanagement under them. Being in power now for six years, the NDC has failed again to improve the economy simply because their fundamentals are wrong. In fact, they don't have what it takes to salvage the sinking economy.
Under normal circumstances, political parties are formed to produce leaders democratically. But in the case of NDC, a tyrant created the party with state power and resources to legitimize his illegitimate regime and cling to power fraudulently. NDC is therefore, an artificial and illegitimate party followed by stomach politicians and sycophants.

I suggest the voter should finish casting his/her vote before the marking ink is applied to the finger. The ink should be the last thing to apply before the voter leaves the scene. Again announcing of votes cast on the radios should start when all the Country has finished casting their votes. If the voting is extended to two days; the announcement should start at the end of the last day.

voters deliberately spoil ballots either because they 1. their conscience do not permit them after collecting monies from two parties!
2. when one's preferred candidate is not in the race. I saw this during the last election when a particular candidate in the case of parliamentary election was dropped for another person because of their own internal party bickering! They then decided not to vote for the new candidate but rather destroy the ballot!
3.To show some level of respect to their family members etc who have vested interest in who wins the election, Some people are compelled by relatives etc to go and vote when in actual fact, they are not in interested! they walk straight to the poll centre and destroy the vote. my sister did same when we compelled her to go and vote.
It is only few uneducated old Wo/men who sometimes turn the ballots upside down and thumbprint for the wrong person and thumbprint again for their preferred candidate when they realize!

What should we expect from the ordinary citizens if party officials cannot cast their votes properly? Ghanaians really need some civic education either from the EC, NCCE or from the ministry of Information
Too sad and shameful!

It's about illiteracy. This is the reason Nana wants to give free basic education to all. By the way, what is the EC doing, the country has been voting for the past 22 years and still do not know how to vote, yet we have people who only pride themselves as experts in election and are called upon by other countries to help them. The only reason spoilt ballot papers happen is that Ex is not doing its work. I suggest the whole EC must be scrapped off to allow new crops.

In many cases the voters find it difficult going back for new ballot papers for fear of intimidation by officials and party agents.
