You've embarked on a very good course, so edifying and educative. But someone could put up the argument that if you can make typographical errors, then the exam council examples you cited, could possibly have been so too.

Notice that I am the writer, typer/typsetter, proofreader and editor. In contrast, WAEC has a team of experts and the papers progressively move from one person to the other until they are released.
It never makes any sense to appreciate your errors because somebody else has committed some. The exams council is one of international reputation. It comprises examiners from 4 different English-speaking African countries.
Can those errors be the result of the combined wisdom or effects of the whole exams council? Let's all contribute our quota to keep educational standards on track.
Thank you for reading.

I consider it not an immortal grammatical sin to expand its informal usage by using it as seen in this write-up. Most probably, the only meaning of this expression you've seen or heard of is that which you concluded is the exact and only meaning. Even so, how would English language expand if every word, term, expression or idiom were to have a fixed, non-expandable meaning?
Also read my reply to Nemesis.
