Yes I remember those KALABULE days when Ghana was misruled by SMC1 led by illiterate Kutu Acheampong(he ignorantly referred to TECH as Kumasi Legon). The economy of Ghana was so hard even yellow corn was used to prepare kenkey and people queued for Tinapa(mackerel), milk, and soap. The Accra sports stadium was in a poor state so El Wak was used for all local and international sporting events( the phobians can tell you about the miracle of El Wak). David Poison Kotei made a sad mistake by parting ways with his trainer and mentor the great Attukwei Klottey and associated himself with the 419 minister for youth and sports mr. Simpe Asante who accompanied him to his overseas fights. It was Simpe Asante who convinced semi illiterate Kotei Poison, after successfully defending his title against Olivares to borrow his hard earned purse to Ghana by using it to import TINAPA without signing any document. The Tinapa was sold at KALABULE prices to Ghanaians for huge profits and D. K still claims his interest free money has not been given back to him.
As was done to some few national heroes, Acheampong awarded D. K a 2- bedroom estate at Tema where he was later robbed by armed robbers.
D.K lost back to back fights with Danny little Red Lopez. In 2005, the WBC invited D. K to California for an award to mark the 30th anniversary of the title he won against Fukuyama in Japan but D. K could not afford to buy even the plane ticket to attend.
D. K pleaded with Acheampong, Akufo, Limann, Rawlings, Kuffour, Mills, and now Mahama but all fell on deaf ears.

I like a lot the stuff you have written but I am surprised why the WBC could not afford to pay for his plane ticket, accommodation etc if they are the one honoring him? WBC is a mega rich organisation.

It's clear he lent the money to Ghana, he didn't borrow from Ghana. The difference bt lend and borrow is clear, but some Ghanaians confuse the two.
If you take money from someone as a loan, the person has lent money to you, and you become the borrower. A lender gives and a borrower takes a loan.

i have been following his story keenly. it was true that those days times were very hard. in fact the mackerel he is talking about was listed amongst items referred to as essential commodities or provisions. when you enter the living room of an affluent person, canned items for the kitchen or store were displayed in a glass cabinet. what might have happened was that the people around him at the time took advantage of the codial relationship between DK & the very enthusiastic commissioner for sports, commissioner for finance & head of state & chairman of the SMC general ignatius kutu acheampong to convince DK to part with some of his purse claiming that it was a request by the GENERAL. according to DK some of them are still alive. he mentioned one col slatter. and DK'S conqueror lopez also referred to a general around DK @ the time. some of those people around him at the time need to give testimony so that the whole mystery can be uncovered. As ghana's hero the state can choose to honour DK alondside azumah, ike quartey and the other world champions. its on rexcord that the house in which dk lives in was given to him by general acheampong. refund should be out of the question but the government cna give him something substantial as an honour. those who were around him should be investigated and the truth unravelled. dk himself can help in that regard.

The Acheampong government which was a Military regime at the time decided to borrow his forex,($) to purchase "tinapa"(mackerel) to be precise it was the GEISHA brand and we all bought it so the government got the cedi equivalent from the sale so why is it difficult to pay the poor guy?
It was the late Justice D.F Annan who brokered that deal on behalf of the government.

I am very sorry for DK Poison. The fact is you will not die now. Wait until another govt pay you.
The fact is President Mahama was trying to do the right thing in Brazil but used the wrong tools.
Personally I feel he paid $3m to undeserving footballers who did not win a single match. This has become his albatross.
Please allow him to focus on the economy and the threat of Ebola in the sub region.
I know he seems like a kind man, and when he is a bit successful with his work he will even pay you himself.
That money was either stolen by the GFA at the time or the sports minister. Who was he one Colonel......What?
