Our President, I guess, after listening to reason has seen the light to REDUCE the magnitude of cheating of Ghana's cocoa farmers that has been going on over the years.
The producer price increase of about GHc 345 per bag of 64 kg is a great boost to the cocoa farming industry. Also, the following benefits would be derived from the price increase:
1) This will help farmers to increase cocoa production in the country;
2) The increased production will help the government to EARN more foreign exchange annually;
3) It will also STAMP out or REDUCE the amount of cocoa smuggled to neighboring Ivory Coast, because of higher prices there—even after years of civil wars; and
4) The increase will certainly SPUR increase spending during the coming Christmas and thereafter, which will in turn increase economic activities in the country—if our farmers have more buying power.
So, Mr. President, thank you very much for your decision to increase he cocoa producer price, although I know some of your hard-core CHEATING brigade were pinching your side not to do it so they can continue to cheat and steal more from our hardworking cocoa farmers. Again, good move!!

Did you ask Kuffuor what he used revenue from the sale of cocoa for?Those who matter most with the cocoa industry appreciate what the government is doing for them.

Cocoa may be the higher income earners for Ghana, but it will also.pay dividends to the country to invest in the oil sector. You can have more than 1 dominant income stream

I agree with you; it looks like you have knowledge in finance and investment. However, this president knows nada so he try to influence the poor farmers for his selfish next election needs. He knows that oil does not have direct connection to individuals as cocoa does, so he is trying to get the cocoa farmers attention for next election. I myself is investing in cocoa farming, but that does not mean, I neglect investing in oil. I honestly think that this president have little brains. He will not get people like me to vote for him.

We need a consumer based economy that hires people and grows our GDP based on consumer spending. Countries like Russia, and Saudi, are suffering right now because oil is under $90 a barrell.

The Bank of Ghana (BOG) has no Eastern Regional headoffice. The BOG must ask for land from the King of Akyem (Okyehene) to construct this building. I don´t believe that the BOG has accurate data of the economic activity in the at least 12 Akyem districts which make up more than half the population on the region. The GDP and GNI of these Akyem districts are very high. They stem from:
Gold mining
Diamond mining
Cocoa
Oil Palm (the largest in West Africa)
Timber
Software development
etc
The money supply and capital in the at least 12 Akyem districts are wholly inadequate. BOG must remove impediments to the setting up of rural banks in these districts and encourage ADB and GCB to open branches in these districts.
The government must further ensure that wholly owned Ghanaian banks, including rural banks, get at least 80% of the banking revenue.

I don't know what is wrong with Mahama. Doesn't he have a mind of his own? Has he already giving into the Americans? because this is the position of the US and it has been their position ever since we discovered oil. The reason is simple . They want us to look the other way whilst they slip through our protective barriers to take control over our oil and gas. And you our leader, you too you come and repeat this nonsense? Can't you learn from Professor Mills and stand up for the people of Ghana by facing the oil and gas sector and ensuring maximum profits goes to them in such a manner it totally overtake cocoa? using comparisons to tamper down expectation for the US to take control of oil won't work on us. When are you going to start fighting for the interest of the people against these MNCs? The flip flopping is getting too much. The president must take a clear stand...either a nationalist or a traitors position and stick with it. If you want to be cold be cold, if you want to be hot, be hot. You cannot stay in the middle people because you would be torn apart.
