They are making the same mistake like Australia years ago. Australia is still feeling the pinch of their wrong decisions up to date. Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast have overtaken Ghana a long time ago. Government never thought about the commodity prices when they implemented the new corporate tax land royalty percentage on the mining operators. They could have done it in the most effective way like introducing a sliding royalty which is based on the gold price. If the gold price picks up, tax and royalty pick up. They claim that they practise the same with the electricity and water prices but I'm telling you this Government has no clue at all.

This propaganda was started by Aubyn and it is being continue by his successor because of nokofioo. Now am told on top of the massive propaganda by Dr Aubyn which has always been a smart ploy to dodge taxes he has been appointed as the CEO of minerals commission. It is not true that these mining companies in Ghana are contributing anything better than what is happening elsewhere. The kind of profit they are repatriating coupled with the massive environmental degradation as well as the unbridled & uncontrolled tax allowances should make this chamber of mines ashamed to be saying these things. They should give us a break. Please.
Better Ghana no matter what 9 years ago

This has nothing to do with propaganda or dodging taxes. Ghana was the POWERHOUSE when it cmd to gold mining in West Africa and now it has lost its shine. Government can't control illegal mining activities or implement laws which help the mining sector and the country. Never forget where the foreign cash is coming from. Its not coming from oil, agriculture or other stuff. The mining industry brings more foreign cash into the country then the cocoa industry. If this sector is collapsing then goodnight Ghana.
You made a point in mentioning the environmental damages. Look if government would be strong and all laws would be properly working then this wouldn't happened. How come that all these mining companies have operations in Canada, USA, Australia and elsewhere and they follow the environmental obligations? Because their system is working. Ghana is a failed State which needs to re-build but not with tribalism or stupid politics as we have seen the last 57 years.
Our country should have been at an far more advanced stage then we are today.
