Every Ghanaian is aware that the most corrupt institution in Ghana is the judiciary including the attorney general's department. Stealing a goat, fowl, cell phone etc. affects individuals. Helping civil servants and business persons in white collar crimes affect the whole nation. Judges take bribes and to allow these criminals to go scot-free with their booty because they don't care about the people but their stomach. Who corrupts them? They are corrupt before criminals will use the avenue. If there is no path, no one will use it so they have the gate which criminals use to enter. After all, the chief justice was promoted through that avenue when she dubiously jailed Tsatsu for Kuffour to promote her.

Is this judge admitting that litigants come to his house or office to bribe him? And does he find it difficult to resist such temptations?
I would have taken this judge seriously if he had said that he has been handing over such attempted bribe givers to the police and that other judges should do the same. In my opinion, that is the surest way of stopping people from attempting to corrupt justice delivery in Ghana because bribery is a crime in Ghana and as far as I am aware, any attempt to commit a crime is as criminal as the commission of the crime itself.
So Justice Charles Agbavor has no leg to stand on to condemn litigants who desperately attempt to bribe him when he himself has condoned such conduct by not handing over such criminals to the police. In any case, a High Court judge of his calibre always has policemen guarding him, so why not use such policemen as your witnesses and also to use them to effect the necessary arrests.
Justice Charles Agbavor, I think yours is the case of the kettle calling the pot black! Anaaaah?

Kojo, you got it spot on. I was going to commence my own thread when I read yours. What did this man learn at school about the independence of the judiciary and how essential this is to the democratic process and the establishment of the rule of law? If one has not got the moral fiber to resist such temptation in order to uphold the integrity of the judiciary, then one is not fit to be a judge, period! You're right, the old fool should be advising his colleagues to report any such attempt by any member of the public to the police. Ghana, we refuse to do what is right for the development of our nation. We then try to justify our spineless acts.

Nonsense, an advice to the mouse? Why not the cat as well? Of course, people will always try to bribe you, but it's up to you to be resolute, firm and loyal. One must be guided by ethics of the profession. If you wouldn't allow someone to bribe you to kill your mother, for instance, you don't also allow yourself to be corrupted for other purposes. These judges who take bribes are already people with corruptible minds. Wolves in sheep clothing, I will call them. Nobody corrupts you, but you yourself. If there is such widespread corruption among judges as we've been made to know, then this story should be shedding light on the Atugaba Election Petition verdict, in what the whole world saw as a stolen verdict, "Judicial Theft Of The Century". Victoria Hammah under no duress, was heard on a leaked tape saying that Nana Oye Lithur, played a major role in NDC's Election Petition victory. How did that happen? She met with the judges on an important day such as the day prior to the declaration of the petition result. What for? Wasn't it a case of bribery and corruption? It therefore, didn't come as a surprise to see what the shame that was witnessed, coming from the bench. Hmmm! A day is coming when the evil deeds of men shall see the light of day. These rots are all the legacies of the NDC.

How about telling your men and women to overcome the temptation to receive and protect their personal integrity, uphold the ethics of their profession and save the image of the profession which others before them have toiled to build and safeguard. What the learned judge is saying implies that his men and women are too weak to resist the temptation to receive hence the admonishment to members of the public to desist from giving the judges bribes. This is so pathetic! Some corrupt Police men and women can be found everywhere in the world but in some places it has been rendered so severely unattractive to bribe an officer that it's unthinkable to fathom out how to bribe the cop when he pulls an offending motorist over. Maybe if the judges start prosecuting those who attempt to influence the judges with money this sordid practice may be put in a permanent paralysis mode. We will not countenance your moral bankruptcy would be the strongest message to send to future would-be givers of bribe.
