On the other hand, I'm going to play the devil's advocate and ask what if he proposes ideas which might be detrimental to the nation but he still ram rods them into place?

People with his kind of attitude that everyone is worried about never change because they will always look down their noses at people and ideas they perceive as "unworthy" and there lies in the trouble because they will always be in conflict with and at loggerheads with their fellow workers. Such people get frustrated easily and are normally not very good leaders.

So I think that's a disaster aready in the making by him being approved so far to this point.

I stand corrected if anyone thinks I'm wrong in my assertions.

I have never read anywhere in the world that a politician or presidential candidate should be disqualified or hounded because some in the media or public think an individual is arrogant. Either we are a backward nation or that we do not like successful people.

That kind of pre independence attitude is a disincentive towards progress.Therefore,anyone who exhibit it should not be entertained.
Having said that,I do not see any extraordinary intelligence of Spio-Garbah.What I observed without malice was that,during Rawlings time, Spio.s long talk make little Sense to me.
A change of academic Calendar/Schedule is not an innovation and did not brought anything to the table, either than Stress uncalled for,to both Teachers and students. Anyway,

'Arrogance is a mother of Ignorance',- if MPs are telling Ekow Spio to do away with the 'arrogance tag' he wears, how on earth the 'wannabe president',- now president Mahama,- thanks to Afari-Gyan and the dysfunctional judiciary who elected him the president;- appointed Spio as a minister of state? Is he the best the NDC could come up with? Ghanaians have many problems. Since the demise of Osagyefo Dr.Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana has become a den of political criminals and political prostitutes who prey on the vulnerability of the citizens who are 75% illiterates including most of the people at the helm of affairs. Until we do away with superficial bookish knowledge which is counter productive in the nation building, we will be here for the next millennium. Degrees, degress, degress,- call me doctor ananse, call me doctor kweku tsin etc,etc, etc. I am refering to the corrupt, useless bookish doctors and not the useful medical doctors who work under harsh conditions to save our lives including the lives of the thieves in politics. What is the use of education? We need practical knowledge which can provide us fulfilment in life. Education is not merely the study of books. Education is meant to uphold human values in society and achieve the welfare of society. And so Ekow Spio,- get rid of the ego you are carrying if you want to be a nation builder and not a nation wrecker. The issue is not even about Ekow Spio being arrogant or not. The issue needs to be about whether the Team B appointees that are chock full in the NDC gov't would afford him the space, to work and deliver in concert with him or they would sabotage him, since we have heard members of his own NDC asking how they can work with him, after describing them as Team B ministers?
Ekow Spio should not be faulted for saying that there are Team B ministers in his gov't because that kind of honesty and integrity is needed in our political and democratic environment, so Ghana can benefit from the competence and aptitude needed and required for our socio-economic growth and development. Such human resource exits in abundance and Ghana needs to actively push to get those elements in our public institutions, our legislature, our governance structures to contribute meaningful to our development paradigm.
And in this regard, Ekow Spio's statement to the effect that "He cannot save Mahama" is profound within the context of the Team B ministers and which rather aptly, has brought Ghana to it's knees.
It is this absence of competence and intelligence in the NDC gov't, which prompted the Very Moderator of the Presby Church, Prof. Martey to ask the very poignant question, "nyansafuoo aaa, mo wo hw3, nyansafuoo aaa, mo wo hw3", literally translated to mean 'where are the intelligent people to help in the governance process to bring about the critically needed growth and development of Ghana?'.
Insults, tribalism, ethnicity, propaganda, lies and all sorts of nasty politics has served to put Ghana's development on a leash, whilst looting and thievery by a bunch of incompetents, continues to plunge Ghana further and further into stagnation and this has become a huge burden on the citizenry, with untold hardships, despair, despondency and hopelessness being the order of the day. At the end of the day, one of the underlying and most characteristically important factors in the whole growth and development agenda is competence/intelligence.
Ghana needs to resolve to change course, because such a state of affairs is completely unacceptable and very, very dangerous. Ghana deserves the best.

Perhaps you mean 'technical knowledge'; that may be more appropriate. Intelligence has nothing to do with position/academics etc the way we Ghanaians take for granted. Academic achievements/smarts is not equal to wit/intelligence. In my opinion some political leaders are really not intelligent and that is the problem we as Ghanaians have; a lot of talent go waste because of our erroneous judgements/yardsticks of what a person (or their opinion) is worth. Let us have some proper/healthy self esteem; don't gie the loudmouths more value than they are worth. Or do not 'overvalue' the 'wealthy', worse still those ill gotten wealth.
