Sorry, sir, you seem to have missed the point. There is nothing disgraceful about the report. The first time Rawlings was mentioned was in connection with his representation at the funeral. He was however mentioned a second time among those dignitaries who paid tribute to the deceased. The tribute could have been in written form and read by his representative. So, as you rightly said, people all over the world read what we post and we must all (and not just the journalists), try to make sure what we post is accurate and void of insults.

One day as I stood at the main gates of UG looking for a lift to Accra Central, a VW Beetle pulled beside me and the gentleman offered to give me a lift. On the way, he revealed to me that he was Prof Kwapong, and he was back home from Tokyo for a short visit.
I remember a very unassuming, humble and courteous man who was so respectful even of the ordinary person.
May God bless his soul.

I remember gate-crashing a party Prof Kwarpong held at the cafeteria for some world scholars who had attended a philosophy conference at Legon. He happened to be mingling with the scholars when he saw me, a second year student at Legon Hall, having a few issues with the security who wanted me out. Prof Kwarpong asked them to leave me alone. And when I was awarded a university scholarship to come to the USA for my PhD he met with all the scholarship recipients before we left, and he recognized me from that cafeteria event and laughed. He simply said I knew from tat day that you will be fine. May his soul rest in perfect peace.

The funeral of the late Prof. Kwapong was not a national fun-fare because he did not steal from the state. That is how a truly honourable leaves the scene. There was no attempt to deify him. No lies were told about him to impress because he led a dignified life and was a true giant of an academician. Fare thee well Prof., you were one of the people I admired even as a child.

Thank you, Nii Tsokor, for exposing the useless institution that the Ghana News Agency has become. How can you send a reporter to attend the funeral of one of Ghana's foremost academicians, who does not know the first rules of journalism -- i.e. let your story tell when, how, what happened and where?
In the days of G T Anim or even K B Brown, this reporter and his sub-editor and the enditor who passed the story would all be disciplined, if not sacked. They have brought great shame to the Ghana News Agency, which was once one of the premier Ghanaian sources of accurate news.

What were the Jerry Rawlings representatives also going to do at the funeral? Since when has Rawlings ever appreciated the contribution of academicians - even if in classics.

It is interesting that Kwapong became the VC of Legon before he turned 40 years. Age was no factor, for he delivered.
Do we still have those germs who will do the job selflessly around today?

And of course, he worked with a team of equally selfless and dedicated group of individuals, who all worked for a common cause;the progress and development of the nation!
You had none of these 'nation-wreckers' lurking around, who spent all their time scheming for the downfall of their compatriots!
