He did not have to present a passport, while under deportation. However, the thought that once he lands on this corrupt and ignorant society, he would find favor and sympathy with a gullible mass. Well, Ghana has transformed in certain sectors, and this immigration official did a marvelous job. Anyone of these INS officials could have overlooked the criminal act, based on simple sentiments or lackadaisical behavior.

Thank God for his actions, however, I also believe that the Criminal Politician should be spared, but the persons involved in issuing him this fake passport must be apprehended tried and made to serve time.

1. Why did it take disgraced Amoateng to arrange his travel back to Ghana instead of the US and the Ghana Embassy?
2. Why did the Ghana Embassy refuse to assist our disgraced compatriot? Irrespective of his crime he had served his term with the law and must be treated like any ordinary Ghanaian citizen. If indeed the Ghana Embassy did not assist our disgraced compatriot then I think he should not be held responsible for this crime. Remember that any of us can fall foul with the law whether with drugs or not but we will still be Ghanaians. I condemn Amoateng's action and not Amoateng as a Ghanaian.

It should not be the duty of the convict to find his own travel document for deportation.

My first sympathy goes to Mr. Amoateng until he is proven guilty but I think someone is not tell the real story or someone has played a dirty trick somewhere. Why will a convicted person get himself in such as mess soon after getting out of prison? Either the person is an unrepentant criminal or some one or people are just playing the political jigsaw or criminal jigsaw. But it the pieces will soon fall into place.

The truth must come out,somethings do not add up. 1/ The man asked the Ghana envoy in US to issue him with a passport, but heard nothing from them. 2/ The US immigration did not see anything wrong with the passport at the time of his travel back to Ghana. 3/ The BNI was waiting for him at the arrival hall to pick him up for an offense that he did not know that he had committed. 4/ The man was giving a bail bound too severe for him to fulfill and had to spend a long time in prison custody. Things do not add up. Somebody has an axe to grind with Mr. Amoateng.

If the passport was originally issued in 2009 in Accra then perhaps the owner travelled with it to the USA. In this case, the following things might have happened: 1. the owner sent it to the Embassy in Washington for renewal and it disappeared. 2. the owner sold it to the Agent because she no longer had a serious need for it since she already have her American passport.

If the Passport Office can get the original owner's photo from her passport application, attempts should be made to contact her in the USA to clarify things. If her picture is posted on Ghanaweb, at least, somebody might know her in the States. Mr. Amoateng should be made to reveal the name of his Agent who got him the passport.

Even if he has asked someone to get him a passport you and i know that there are so many contractors in Ghana whose main business is to help clients obtain passport visa and other documents.In Ghana today more than 50% of passports visa and documents and other documents are issued this way.
Many travellers have passpots issued this way
If it is not the US department who gave the BNI this information then I suspect this guy has been trapped by his enemies to further frustrate him

2. Amoateng was released after serving his sentence and deported. If he was deported, US immigration would have escorted him to Kotoka and handed him to Ghana authorities.
3. None of the above happened. The witness said he was told a deportee was on the plane so he went to look for him. Was Amoateng accompanied?
I think the passport was swapped at the airport.
I remember I once traveled with a Travel Certificate from the US which had a valid "A2" visa. At Kotoka airport the immigration officer took it and said they were going to mail it to me and up till today, I have not received it back. If I did not have a copy of the visa to request a re-issue, I would have been stuck here in Ghana. They apparently sold it to someone to travel on in my name.

Mr. Amoateng served his criminal sentence in the US. He is deported to his home country.

Mr. Amoateng served his criminal sentence in the US. He is deported to his home country.
How he got to Ghana's KIA only to be arrested on a passport fraud charges is interesting, especially Mahama's NDC government that knows nothing but fraud. The NDC was aware of Mr. Amoateng's entry back to Ghana, however, they did not like it and plan to disgrace him even more at his arrival. I bet there many well wishers of Mr. Amoateng waiting at KIA for his arrival and the corrupt NDC government plan this whole thing to frustrate him. Let Mr. Amoateng go, he did the crime, he has served the time and therefore there is no need for all this harassment.

1. Amoateng arrived in the US with a Ghanaian passport.
2. Yes, you are right that someone is keeping Amoateng's Ghanaian passport and we should ask the Ambassador who was there from 2006-2009 when the new government took over who is keeping Amoateng's Ghanaian passport.

3. You are right that the US authorities should have or have actually handed our compatriot to the Ghana Embassy Officials. If his claim that the Ghana Embassy did not assist him to get a passport then someone at the Embassy should equally be held responsible.
4. The BNI has the mandate to work with Airport security on all deportation cases,especially those related to drugs. Even without the passport case Amoateng would still have had to answer for his criminal dealings and the BNI would determine whether or not his property would be confiscated by the state. So it is just normal that the BNI and the Airport security had to accost Amoateng.

How naive can you be by surrendering so-called A2 visa to officials of KIA without asking for it before leaving the airport. The guys know that you are not a dickhead so they took advantage of you and so you should not expose your stupidity here.

If the report is true, blame can be placed on both US & Ghanaian immigration services for the SNAFU.

The zillion cedi question is: " what is the Party's and/or governments position on criminal drug gangs who infiltrate Parliament and disgrace an entire Nation?" Are they still members of their respective parties? Are there criminal charges awaiting them at home for some kind of violation/betrayal of the public trust, etc?

I don't condone what he(Amoateng)did but he's served his time but for me or anybody else to castigate or pass judgement on him,is bizarre.
For the records,anybody being deported from anywhere,doesn't get hold of their travel document until disembarkation.
If anybody has to be blamed,it must be the authorities who i am certain for political reasons will pounce on any least opportunity to penalize their opponents as is the case in stupid Ghana.

So We should be asking Mr Amoateng why he did not wait until he heard from the Ghana authorities but to go ahead and get someelse to do it for him something is not right here. And if the passport was issued in 2009 when he was in prison surely he should have asked the person who got him the passport more question. for a person who is bold enough to do the business that he was doing he should not have taken that chance. I have a friend who is a government official and knowing what Ghanaian political opponents are capable off he never travell with suit cases that have too many compartments incase slipps some contraband goods in his case. he should have known better than to get someone else get him a passport if what he is saying is the truth.

Amoateng and his supporters either do not know or are refusing to admit that it is the responsibility of the US government to facilitate the deportation of persona non grata from their country and so if Amoateng did not get a response from the Ghana Embassy the only reasonable thing he could have done is to refuse to move until the US did the right thing.
3. He has exposed his criminal mentality by asking "someone" to get him a passport when he could have insisted on his right to be given a genuine passport by the authorities involved for both in the US and in Ghana.

The US immigration and Custom handle this on behalf of the deportee and no staff at the embassy in Washington DC can refuse the US immigration and Custom any documentation they request concerning Mr Amoateng deportation. This is because they already have Amoateng's old passport to show to the Ghana embassy that Mr. Amoateng is indeed a Ghanaian and therefore needs to be issued a travel certificate since his passport has expired. The idea of Mr. Amoateng getting a new passport five good years before his release is also questionable. It just doesn't make sense on so many grounds.

It is incumbent upon the immigration dept to handover the person's document at the point of exit at the tarmac.
How could the US immigration knowingly allow someone of Amoateng's former status and crime use a FEMALE name to travel to Ghana. This sounds VERY VERY FISHY.
In my view the NDC govt wants to destroy Amoateng to the point that they asked their agent (Asst Commisioner of Immigration) switched or swiped his passport with the female passport and fabricate those lairs. FISHY INDEED!
