If other countries like China, Russia and US have thousands of coal plants, and their economies are better and much more attractive than your so-called clean country, is it not stupid to be crying over a supposed coal plant to be built in Ghana? Africans should keep the world clean while others pollute it and become our masters, right?
Maybe u should concentrate your energies on removing the dirt and filth engulfing your country first.

It is like Hamattan time when you cannot see ahead clearly.
Why do you think China struggled hard to sign that Oil and Gas contract with Russia?
It is, to move away from Coal and all tha associated pollution.

One coal plant somewhere in southern Ghana will not create any environmental hazard! Do not be mentioning cities out of the blue without understanding the fundamentals. Do you know the number and the capacity of the plants in Beijing alone? Do you know the number in the US? One third of the total power supply is from coal bit the environment is clean, cleaner than Accra! Let us focus on what we can do and stop speculating about things we don't know and cannot perceive.

The answer will be 1 Coal plant to about 25 Solar or wind Power, just being conservative.
Lots of countries are moving from Coal, so why do we now want to go for Coal Power plants?
Coal does not make sense, when there is SO MUCH SUN HERE.

When most of the world are shifting from Coal to Wind, and Solar, THOSE IDIOTS are busy thinking of Coal Power Plants.
With this abundance of Sun and Wind, Ghana is still looking at Coal to generate electricity.
The mere mention of Coal, makes us, we Ghanaians look like idiots.
In the presence of all these Sunshine, we are going for Coal.
Is this not plain stupidity.
Wake Up Ghana. Reason up. Don't let those fools up there take Ghanaians for granted.

How does imported crude oil affect the livelihood of the youth in that area long before crude oil was now extracted from the sea bed.

The renewable energy is very expensive to build. Coal is the cheapest form of energy which is being used in ALL developed countries. These developed economies have not abandoned coal energy. A good mixture of energy that includes hydro, thermal, solar, windmill and biofuel will go a long way to improve the economy. Energy is the backbone of industrial revolution.
Talking about clean environment, the generators run by petrol cause more damage than the coal. I bet there are millions of generators in Ghana . Burning of land to prepare for farming also cause environmental pollution but if that is stopped now people will go hungry. Millions of old cars on the streets cause environmental pollution can Ghana afford to ban second hand cars? Can Ghana build electric cars? Help clean environment, every house on the coast at least should have toilet and keep the beaches clean.

One would think, that Akasombu-Dam still could provide a lot of energy. But it is broken most of the time and needs restoration.
The Gas from the oil should also be a good solution. Also Biogas is an option. Wind is a serious problem for birds and even more: bats. Agriculture and forestry depends on birds an bats, as does tourism. Solar energy is still the most expensive and not exactly a "for free"-energy. Coal unearthes heavy metals, indeed, also uranium in large numbers. Industrial countries have the problem, they have filters too, so the main problem today is mining the coal. Ghana as a coastal country should combine: decentralized Biogas (public toilets, nonexistent sewers, etc.), fossile gas, Solar-thermic plants, small wind-plants in limited areas, small water-plants, tidal-wave-plants and then, if there are peaks, you can still burn coal and oil. The main issue should be to cut excess use. For example a 20 years old fridge used another 10 years in Ghana consumes so much more energy than a new one, you cannot imagine. Rather buy a new one which consumes less energy on a daily base. Also TV's. Big TV's consume energy to the amount of thousands of Ghanacedi during their lifetime. It is cheaper to buy better.

WTH are these people babbling about? You do not have enough power, you do not have enough money to afford power produced from renewable energy and you are saying what about coal plants?
What is the forecast emissions from the coal plant? How are they concluding that it will devastate the environment? China's fog is not caused by coal plants alone. Emissions from vehicles and factories are major contributors.
Ghanaians like to eat their cake and still have it. Do you want regular power supply and increased productivity or you want more dumsor and poverty in a "clean" Ghana?
By the way, whether you generate power from coal or not, the effects of China's manufacturing activities and those of developed countries like America will still impact negatively on Ghana.
The economy is hitting workers hard and many have run-out of ideas.
