The IMF was not set up to finance domestic government budget deficits. Its loans are earmarked to pay foreign creditors, mainly to maintain a country’s exchange rate. The effect usually is to subsidize flight capital out of the country at a high exchange rate. IMF loans come with “conditionalities” that impose austerity. This in turn drives the economy even further into debt – forcing the government to tighten the budget even more, run even smaller budget deficits and sell off public assets.

Just check on Greece what they are going through now. IMF comes in as a last resort and they determine every conditionality before even appending their signature. Why put Thompson there again? Someone who guided the collapse of the economy is now heading the IMF recovery program? If he were intelligent and gave the right advice at the presidency, shall we be where we are now? NDC wants to burn themselves out even before 2016. Wait and see the repercussions. What morons are leading 25 million Ghanaians.

I think you should do some homework.
The past two imf leaders are not clean and have been caught with fraudulent issues. IMF will suck you dry. The country even with all its reserves is broke due to various issues which I will not get into. What are you expecting IMF to do that you cannot do. As far as a lot of us are concerned, the current leaders are just not up to the job. Evennwhen there is no need, our politicians will try to bribe and steal instead of just doing research, filling in forms and monitoring with accountability for every bit of work that needs to be done. They cannot even manage projects the same way they would manage the garden boy.
