Ghana must start awarding Doctor of Medicine degrees to MBChB medical students who have performed the necessary research projects as is done in other MBChB awarding countries. This lack of foresight on the part of the Ghana Medical and Dental Council must be corrected.
The School of Medical Sciences KNUST must also stop its discriminatory practices in awarding MBChB degrees and live up to expectations by boosting its number of lecturers.
The current practice where newly inducted doctors called house officers with no experience whatsoever are left to experiment with (attend to) serious medical cases while residents, specialists and consultants are away must be put to a stop immediately. There must be at least one specialist present 24 hours in three shift rotations to supervise them. Our health system as it is presently is not the best. The situation in the countryside and rural communities is even worse.

This asessment is, perhaps, an ideal theoretical observation which bears no or little impact on what actually happens in practice.
What must be well taken into account is the fact that African governments including Ghana do not import food items for the masses unlike before. To this end, control of the businesses handling this sector is limited or non-existent except to collect custom duties. In reality, therefore, the African governments do not need even to spend that much money to assist our farmers but merely to supplement their efforts. The whole solution to the problem is just commitment of purpose on the part of African leaders which is woefully lacking. New leaders are not the least learning or reflecting on the fact that stolen national wealth by Abacha, Mobutu, etc. could not save them.
To them, wealth is better than good name and so they will be forgotten quickly.

Kofi, you and i know that Import deals are the colossal way African presidents make their money with their cronies whmo they award import the licenses. Kofi don't pretend you do not know why African Presidents import more that boasting their local economy. First, they do not care because they get elected by the system operated by the money they steal via importing goods. Secondly they do not owe the citizens of their country because they come to power not with their help of them but the electoral system they brew with the money they make from imports. Kofi your advise to president Mahama is too late.

YOUR EXCELLENCY MR. KOFI ANNAN, THANKS A MILLION. YOU HAVE HIT THE NAIL RIGHT ON THE HEAD. ALL THE SUCCESSIVE GOVERNMENTS AFTER OSAGYEFO DR. KWAME NKRUMAH FOLLOWED SOME AMORPHOUS PRIORITIES, IF ANY AT ALL, THAT UNFORTUNELY HAD NO BEARING ON THE SINEWS THAT DR. NKRUMAH SET FOR US. INDEED, ON THAT SCORE, WE THREW AWAY THE BABY WITH THE BATH WATER IN THAT COUP D'ETAT THAT OVERTHREW HIM!!!
AS AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE VOLTA RIVER PROJECT, NKRUMAH HAD VERY ELABORATE PLANS FOR IRRIGATION OF THE ACCRA PLAINS. HE PROMISED GHANAIANS THAT GHANA WAS GOING TO BE THE BREAD BASKET OF AFRICA. HE FURTHER GAVE AN UNDERTAKING THAT UNDER HIS 7-YEAR DEVELOPMENT PLAN, THE AVERAGE WORKER WOULD SPEND JUST TWO SHILLINGS AND SIXPENCE FOR 3-SQUARE MEALS A DAY.
UNFORTUNATELY, THE NATIONAL LIBERATION COUNCIL (NLC), WITH THE CONNIVANCE OF SOME UNPATRIOTIC POLITICAL UNDERLINGS AND SOME FOREIGN DETRACTORS, DISMANTLED THE WHOLE PROJECTIONS BY OSAGYEFO.
LOOK, WHEN HE PROMISED THAT THE COUNTRY WAS UNDERTAKING AN INDUSTRIALIZATION PROGRAM, HE STOOD IN PARLIAMENT AND ROUNDLY LAMBASTED BOTH THE EAST AND THE WEST WHILE AT THE SAME TIME CHALLENGING THEM TO OFFER OUR STUDENTS SCHOLARSHIPS TO STUDY ABROAD. YES, BOTH THE WESTERN AND THE EASTERN BLOCKS RUSHED SCHOLARSHIPS.AND WHILE OUR STUDENTS WENT ABROAD, HE STARTED BUILDING THE FACTORIES AT TEMA, PWALUGU,NSAWAM, ASUTUARE,BOLGATANGA BONSASO ETC, SO THAT BY THE TIME OUR STUDENTS QUALIFIED AND RETURNED HOME THERE WOULD BE JOBS FOR THEM, AND THE WHOLE COUNTRY WOULD BE THE BENEFICIARIES.
ONCE AGAIN, THAT VISIONARY WAS OVERTHROWN WITH THE BATH WATER. WHEN HE ESTABLISHED THE WORKERS' BRIGADE, HE HAD IN MIND THE LAMENTATIONS BY THE THEN ISRAELI AMBASSADOR TO GHANA, H.E. AVRAM COHEN WHO, TRAVELLING TOWARDS LOME ONE DAY, STOPPED, OBSERVED THE VAST EXPANSE OF VIRGIN AGRICLUTURAL LAND LYING FALLOW, AND GROWING WEEDS YEAR IN AND YEAR OUT ON THE ACCRA PLAINS. HE LITERALLY WEPT THAT GHANA HAD SUCH RICH AGRICULTURAL TREASURE AND WE WERE IMPORTING APPLES AND GRAPES FROM HIS COUNTRY WHERE THE VERY SOIL OF THE EARTH WAS ALL ROCKS THAT THE ISRAELIS BROKE UP, GROUND INTO SOIL AND FERTILIZED TO GROW THE PRODUCE THAT WE, WITH SUCH RICH ENDOWMENT OF NATURALLY FERTILE LAND WERE IMPORTING WITH HARD-EARNED CURRENCY.
LOOK! GHANA STARTED OFF ON THE PATH TO INDEPENDENCE WITH COUNTRIES LIKE SINGAPORE AND MALAYSIA. JUST THIS PREVIOUS WEEK, THERE WAS AN ARTICLE ON GHANAWEB ILLUSTRATED WITH A PICTURE OF AN OIL PALM PLANTATION WHICH, BY OUR MEASUREMENT, COULD STRETCH ALL WAY FROM ACCRA TO NKAWKAW. THAT IS AN EXAMPLE OF THE SHAPELESSNESS OF OUR PRIORITIES. TODAY THOSE COUNTRIES ARE SELF-SUFFICIENT.AND GHANA IS STILL WALLOWING IN THE MUD. TODAY GHANAIAN POLITICIANS HAVE FREE CHEESE WHICH,LIKE THE SPINELESS RATS AND VERMIN THAT THEY ARE, ARE WANTONLY ENJOYING WITHOUT ACCOUNTABILITY!
YOUR EXCELLENCY KOFI ANNAN, IT'S GOOD TO IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM, BUT THROWING US$38 BILLION DOLLARS IN THE FACE OF THOSE "SIKADICIOUS" GHANANAIN FARMERS AND FISHERMEN IS LIKE TELLING THE WHOLE COUNTRY THAT THERE WILL BE NO TOMORROW!
THANKS FOR READING THIS.
