Educational standards are declining in the whole country not V/R alone. A solution must be found for the whole country because people of V/R do not attend only schools in the region. By the way, the minister of education says our education system is one of the best in the world.

When our politicians toy with our educational system, that is what we get. The way the JSS/SSS were implemented without even the inputs, what do we expect. The politicians were however greedy enough to send their children to school in the Western World to avoid the poorly implemented change from the traditional O and A Levels. I am an educationist and I know it will take a long time, proper care of teachers, the necessary teaching and learning aids and proper supervision before things can improve.

This news item is no excuse for ignorant, ill-bred ethnocentric jerks from the Akan ethnic group to start heaping their misplaced bigoted invectives at the diverse people of the VR, who, btw, have Akans as a large section of its population, not to mention the over a dozen other linguistic groups that call the VR their region.
If you ignorant jerks have any education to speak of, you'd be aware of that anyway. But you don't! Ghana's [mis]educational system has been failing us for a long, long time, with jerks like these as living proofs!

Where is Rawlings? He seems to be quiet about such vital nation building issues. he introduced this educational system without making provisions for it. Is he struggling to apportion blame on other people?

The blame must be put squarely on the shoulders of the murderer, Jerry Rawlings, and his gang of illiterate revolutionaries who, as a result of their own academic failures, harbored deep hatred for academics. The came up to destroy education, replacing it with a system that was supposed to produce graduates "relevant to our economy" - carpenters, butchers, tailors, hairdressers and all. Then he sent his own children to foreign schools and out of the same system he created. How do you test children on reading and writing when the revolutionaries said that was never good for the Ghanaian ecomini?

Ghanaians spend all their time speaking English with their children at home and then same at school.....just to sound like some other people we are not???
So, what do we understand by EDUCATION????
It's about time we rethink our entire education system in our country and more importantly on our continent - AFRICA!!! Why do we continue with this brainwash education system which has kept us in the doldrums for years………. All we do is to teach our children in someone else’s ‘lingo’ and expect to be like them???
Unfortunately, our understanding of ‘Education’ is all about perfecting other peoples ‘powerful tools’ (language) based on collecting knowledge without the basic understanding of its origins and values.
It is basically all about aping other humans’ lifestyle, totally contrary to our cultural heritage and good traditional beliefs.
Our so-called ‘Education’ system is deeply-rooted in the concept of reading books (in someone else’s languages and of their experiences totally alien to ours), memorizing them again, again and again, regurgitating them out of the ‘memory box’ (that is, if one has one) unto exam papers, get so-called good grades and eventually attain a degree/masters and forget everything after the process.
Another sequence for this kind of education system is called – ‘chew’, ‘pour’, ‘pass’ and ‘forget’ – which gives no room for any form of analytical thinking that stimulates the COMMON SENSE (the gift from GOD), bestowed upon every human being.
I would honestly like to seek answers to the following:
What were Africans educating themselves in, in the past before English or the French languages?
Which African language did all the scholars from all walks of life (from and beyond our continent), who achieved greatness from the first university in the world, located in Timbuktu – Mali were educated in?
Why was there an explosion of African Civilization which stretched from the North and South of the Great Nile River before the English language?
Why don’t we look to our past achievements to shape and secure our future as a continent, just as any other nations have done?
Why the choice of a language IMPOSED on us by the colonialists - who had enslaved us and suppressed the minds of our people?
Why the choice of a language, wholly alien to our African cultural heritage, good traditions and values?
Why not an AFRICAN LANGUAGE to educate ourselves to carve up a future and a proud identity for us and OUR unborn generations?
What have we Africans achieved……… since embarking on educating ourselves in suppressive languages that has bred inferiority complex towards the colonialists and other foreigners?
Others may argue that, we should not re-invent the wheel that has already been created for us……….and my question is, have we ever made good use of that created wheel? If not, then why????????????
Please, please, please let's challenge our minds and reach a better way forward because history, if it’s anything to go by tells us that we are barking the wrong tree…….in the hope of being like the people we can never be…….just by aping around like them and speaking their ‘lingo’? These same people we are trying to be like, became who they are by the use of THEIR OWN ‘lingos’, correcting THEIR OWN mistakes and experiences within the confines of THEIR OWN environments and the for the GOOD of THEIR OWN nations. DON’T WE GET IT????
If we don't even know who we are, how on earth can we know where we are going, as a people?
Please let's have a sensible dialogue here and not the basic 'crap'! Thank you!
GOD BLESS GHANA!
AFRICAN FOREVER!

This alarming decline in academic performance in the Volta Region has national dimensions. All over the regions of Ghana, educational performances are in decline. We want realistic results. Although teachers are at the front line, we need a concerted efforts of everyone in order to engage students, educators, parents, community to undertake this common threat. We must re-examine our education missions, our short and long range goals; we need to equip teachers and to empower students; we need to change ways we teach students.
