OUR PROBLEM IN MANAGEMENT, ESPECIALLY A GOVERNMENT ENTITY IS THE ASSUMPTION THAT THE CEO OWNS THE COMPANY OR THE MINISTERS AND THEIR FAMILIES. THEY THEN WANTED TO USE THE FACILITY FOR FREE. THE OUTCOME OF THE MINDSET OF THE EMPLOYEES OF GOVERNMENT IN MANAGEMENT LEADS TO THE FAILURE OF ANY ENTERPRISE. DO WE KNOW WHY GHANA AIRWAYS FAILED? WHAT LESSONS IF ANY WOULD WE LEARN FROM THEM. KENYA AND ETHIOPIAN AIRLINES ARE STILL AROUND. DURING THE CPP GOVERNMENT'S TIME WHEN GHANA AIRWAYS WAS ESTABLISHED, GHANA WAS THEN CONSIDERED AS A NATION WITH A VISION. THEN CAME THE SAME PEOPLE SHOUTING ON ROOFTOPS THEY WANT TO RULE GHANA AGAIN. THEY BOAST THAT THEY SOLD THE AIRLINE OF GHANA AND WOULD SELL IT AGAIN GIVEN THE CHANCE. HUMILITY OF PURPOSE HAS BEEN RULED OUT IN GOVERNMENT. POMPOSITY IS OUR STYLE OF MANAGEMENT IN GHANA. LEST I FORGET ABOUT CORRUPTION IS AT THE ROOT OF GHANA AIRLINES DEMISE. HAVE WE LEARNT OUR LESSONS THIS TIME AROUND?

A national airline will only be successful if it is private and run strictly as a business, not by the government. National airlines around the world have failed because governments don't know how to run a business without corruption. If a private company will run the airline with NO government involvement or subsidy, then it may work. Otherwise, Ghana is just wasting its time and money.

Considering cargo transportation for our exports and imports alone, somebody must advise the government to rethink for once that, a national shipping line will be a wiser idea instead of an airline. This will be a more properous business venture so I pray for you to mark my advice.
Our sea ports are already crowded in ports and anchorages with foreign ships carrying our cargoes which fetch revenues many times higher than an airline. Except that our policy designers/makers intend to be flying regularly, their spouses, girl-friends, families and friends on shopping trips at taxpayers' expense to spend their stolen or looted cash, reflect/compare the following facts.
1. Freight earnings on goods in and out of the ports will be many times more than whatever the planes carry. Ships carry every cargo including the crude oil and petroleum products.
2. Planes cost more than ships or for the same amount in purchase, the ship will be more resourceful.
3. Ships will normally outlast the lifespan of planes for similar maintenance culture.
4. Ghana has numerous quality and active international seafaring professionals meaning massive re-training costs will be saved.
5. Ghana is home to the famous Regional (ECOWAS) Maritime University in Accra regularly churning out both local and foreign graduates for the international maritime market. Ghana, therefore, does not need to spend precious foreign exhange to sponsor nor recruit foreigners to run the ships.
5. With no national shipping line existing in ECOWAS region, there will be abundant cargo to rake in the hard currencies whilst flying Ghana flag high worldwide.
6. Ghana can learn from Ethiopia this time around by formulating measures to ensure her shipping line gets top most priority in carrying all cargoes to and from Ghana. It is very possible. The Regional Maritime University in Ghana trains Ethiopian maritime professionals whilst our airline crews are trained in Ethiopia.
7. Modern management experience may be non-existent for the 'international' airline but there are shipping companies in Ghana managing foreign companies vessels who can assist assemble qualified, quality and experienced staff.
8. If those calling themselves maritime experts in Ghana are daft or foolishly unable to advise the government on shipping advantages vis-a-vis an airline to shore up the economy from total collapse, they are not worth the dime.
9. Now think about the resuscitation of life or hope, employment and trade benefits for people living along the coast and in the harbour cities who massively voted the present government into power.

We do not learn. How many national airlines do we want to start and collapse. You have turned one into a restaurant. If that is not enough you want to waste more money again. Do we not have other more pressing priorities.

It really a shame and i think a good government should really stand on it feet and help get atleast 10-20 planes to help the people of Ghana as we are suffering paying huge monies to other countries airlines. Now look at South Africa and others they are developing cuss of airlines we Ghanaian board to visit their countries.

Ghana is a joke to think of a new national Airlines.Who did not know that in NY,someone loaded the national Airlines from his place to abode/bedroom.
Who doesn't know that it was the practice of some pilots to be late between 2-3 hours, while passengers already checked in wait in annoyance,on west coast trips. Who doesn't know that,Ghana Airways crew on afternoon flight from Ghana to west coast, decides to postpone the evening flight back to Ghana to the following morning 7am, non- technical problems notwithstanding; just to pass the night with their concubines/ girlfriends at the expense of the national Airlines and the inconvenience and discomfort of passengers. These west coast stories are my personal experiences.to be continued.

I'm not afraid to say that the present gov't vision, according to the Sector Minister, Dzifa Attivor to establishing a new national Airlines,
is not a well thought through vision, and a waste of Taxpayer money,to say the least. The best option is for the gov't to encourage private Ghanaian investors / entrepreneurs through soft interest Bank Loans to venture into Air transport business.
That's the way forward, and Not a Ghana national Airlines.

The problem is we have very little faith in the ability of our people.
I was educated in NYC from a private Jesuit school in computer science and i have masters in computers science as well. I wanted to come work in Ghana for a while, so I could share what I have learnt from abroad. But getting a job in Ghana was like I had to beg for the job. Comparatively, my skill level is high in terms of security engineering, and it is very easier for me to get a job on Wall street in NYC than in Accra. So I gave up and came back to work in NYC.
I hope we can look beyond the white man and start using local skills

It's amazing how Ghana Airways or Ghana Internaational Airlines went bankrupt when Delta Airlines has foung the Ghana-USA route one of their most lucrative routes. In the summer months, Delta goes to Accra every day, overbooked. Ghana Airways was also overbooked, but most passengers used staff passes, and luggages were not paid for. Money just went to staff pockets. It was a shame that months before the airline was closed down, Ghana government had to send money from Accra to pay Ghana Airways New York office staff in dollars.
