"Nuclear expert" wonders why it hasn't been done....well, maybe because it is a bad idea.
The costs and risks involved, especially for a country like Ghana where we are so incompetent, even our only oil refinery is broken, but we are confused on how to fix it and refine our own oil.
In this country you want to build a life or death plant; where if water for cooling goes off, if power for pumping cooling water goes off, people die. In this country where brain drain has taken all the good experts abroad (hence this expert is all we have left), in this country were we frequently see facilities breakdown and never function again (TOR)... it is here you want to spend $3billion building nuclear with money we don't have and will have to borrow which will lead to greater inflation and pressure on development in other areas ($3billion on nuclear is $3billion away from roads, farming, etc.)
The rich countries have nuclear because it is expensive to run. The cost per kilowatt is marginally lowest I will admit, but external costs are also high. In fact, those same rich countries that built nuclear, are NOW replacing those same nuclear plants with alternatives (wind and solar) - no one is building new plants, but it is now that our "experts" feel it's right to go down this course - FOOLS, simply fools with no original thoughts and ideas. Like all politicians in Ghana, these experts only know how to open their mouths to get attention

Why can't we just focus on doing one thing right. Here we are building our oil industry, complete with several oil and gas power generation facilities currently operating and those currently being built. Let's finish these, let's start making some money, then after we use our oil to get rich, THEN lets use the resources that WE'LL ACTUALLY HAVE to go about developing the next area of our economy
It makes no sense to be building an oil based industry and then even without realizing the full potential there, moving to something else like Nuclear. It's time to focus and do something right.

Professor Benjamin Nyarko kindly give us an update on the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant and how Japan is handling everything so far?
Developing nations are going away from Nuclear. Solar, at least, is more flexible and installed on houses, warehouses, government buildings, etc. a lot quicker than waiting years for a Nuclear Power plant. This type of cheap power isn't worth it. Ask Japan.

Let the Professor look around our failed state institutions and entities and honestly tell us if we are capable of handling such a risky venture. Look at all our state energy establishments and tell us if they're being properly maintained or managed efficiently. Nuclear energy looks tempting but, do we want to risk the lives of our people in case of a leak when we can't even manage Volco or the Bui dam? It's going to be a failure and a plain damned surreal one due to our greed and corrupt tendencies. From our past and current records, we're going to mismanage this risky death trap the African way-It's government property so, chop make I chop, who cares?

Please complete a sustainable organic waste management first, and then talk to us about Nuclear Energy.
Ghana has abundant Water, Solar, and Wind resources to generate power capacity to meet all it needs. Please reserve the Nuclear talk now, for Future discussion. A word to the Wise!!!

Now a little something in an envelope for a long unfulfilled professor will be no small encouragement to get him singing a song past its time won't it?
Plain fact is, it isn't a good time for firms that build nuclear plants so today they remember that continent that they once were hell bent on stopping from having nuclear power for 'cheap' electricity, now can and should be whipped into wanting and baying for nuclear power right? Sorry to say but that professor should be confined to the classroom or be sent abroad.
