What does this mean? Will the plant be able to produce power by generating this amount of gas?
VRA and Dr,Ben Asante are saying different things? CANT UNDERSTAND.

Before we discussed the merits and demerits of the Atuabo Gas Plant in relation to the country’s energy requirements, we have to interrogate dispassionately the cause of the erratic power supply. I found this assertion by a so-called Engineer very surprising. Is this another propaganda by the Daily guide to throw the spokes into the work of government and thus dampen the spirit of Ghanaians? We were told that reasons of the erratic power supply were due to inadequate supply of fuel to the thermal power plants for electricity generation. We depended on the West African Gas to supply us with gas, however, due to certain unforeseen circumstances, the Nigerians failed to comply with the terms of the agreement. The flow of gas from Nigerian was not enough to supply the power plants. For instance , how many megawatts of electricity was the Asogli Plant able to add to the national Grid? The plant is performing under-capacity due to inadequate supply of gas. With the coming on stream of the Atuabo gas, our thermal plants will be working at full capacity and thus supply the National Grid with the extra megawatts that was missing at the time there was not enough gas to generate electricity. If this scenario will not eradicate the erratic power supply, it would at least minimise the supply deficiency in the system and also save the country the needed foreign currency that we have been spending on importation of gas and light crude oil. Do we always have to act as doomsayers and refuse to see anything good in Ghana?

VRA is not totally correct. As much as the Atuabo Gas may not totally eliminate the dumsor problems, it can definitely curtail the problem. This can be achieved if the government decides to allocate the available gas to new IPPs so that these new plants can add to the existing generating capacity. As Mr Owusu of VRA said, allocating the gas to VRA will only reduce the operating cost of VRA. But allocating the gas to IPPs will add to the present generating capacity and thereby, reduce the dumsor menace. The decision belongs to the Government and I trust that they wiil choose the option that will reduce the load shedding problems. Thsnk you
