Rape cases are on the increase in Ghana. Judges and WAJU of the Ghana police force must do more to protect our society. Some people have become so notorious of raping and getting away with it. Many believe that it is a weapon capable of scarring individuals to the very soul and seize the least opportunity to use it; using it on the families of their political or business competitors. Not even those at the higher echelons of our society must get away with it. It is said that a man paid a student to rape the daughter of his business and political competitor.
The number of court houses and judges in Ghana are inadequate especially in the Eastern Region of Ghana. The population has ballooned and changes have to be made. The same can be said of the number of police officers and the number of penitentiaries. On a visit to a number of court houses around the country I found the Ghana flag and the Ghana Coat of Arms (Seal) absent. This must change.

Forget about a lady's passport and ask yourself these questions?
1- When was Amoateng arrested?- 2005
2- Which passport did he use to travel at that time? At first, they said it was diplomatic passport?
3- Did the US take that passport from him? You betcha.
4- Why would Amoateng want a new passport knowing that he wouldn't be out until 2014 or 2015?
5- Where was this passport kept, in PRISON all this time?
6- Don't believe that Amoateng was released in America. He was still in prison. So the next question is, when the came for them to deport him, they did try to use the old passport or asked him whether he has a new one?
7- Note that on question 6, that would the most stupid thing the State Dept would do in the USA. They were holding onto his passport and they knew whether that had expire or not. If it had not expire, that would be the one they would use. If it had expire the onus is on them to provide a traveling certificate for them to use it to deport him.
8- So based on the report here, are they telling us that, Amoateng gave the state dept this passport to be used to deport him?
9- NOte that those who are about to be deported are not the ones that keep their traveling documents. The State department officials that are traveling with the deportee are the ones holding the documents. They hold on to these documents until they release the deportee to the officials at his home country.
10- The next question would be, did US official carried this "fake" passport with them and handed it to Ghana officials?
11. At what time did they realize that the passport that US official gave them was fake?
Kofi, no intelligent being would believe what these people are saying?

While the Security Agencies in Ghana may well be within their legal bounds to interrogate Mr. Amoateng on his return, many of his sympathizers think he has suffered enough with the 10-year Jail-term in the USA to be allowed to walk free at home.
If it were not for the new case cited with his acquisition of Passport, I would have added my voice to those of his sympathizers that he be let alone. If he acquired the Passport illegally, the Security Agencies might have some justification to question him.
However, what constitutes an illegal acquisition of a Ghanaian Passport by a thoroughbred Ghanaian in his/her own real name and with the correct personal data, if all applicable fees were paid and the Passport was not manufactured in someone's backyard but at the same source as is legally expected?
In fact, the guy had to come back home somehow, and the Government might not have sought to help him acquire the necessary documents to do so. So, what could he have done to fly back home? He could not board a Plane without a Passport, obviously.
Besides, couldn't we ask if the Security Agencies are peeved because Amoateng succeeded to beat their system to smuggle the Heroine out, only to be caught by the USA Agencies in the USA? Do they feel like he exposed their professional incompetence versus their better performing couterparts in the USA? or, they just want to learn how he skillfully evaded them to enable them better tighten the gaps?
If the Security Agencies are questioning him to learn of his skills in hiding stuff, that is all well and good and they should let him go after that lesson. But if they are holding him because of the Passport, they must have some empathy for the guy and understand his circumstances under which he had to find a Passport to travel home, and pardon him to go have some rest.
Either way, I hope there are no ulterior political motives behind his further detention.
Long Live Ghana!!!

Mr G K Berko. Your post is informative and I understand where you are coming from. I want to disagree with you respectively. First, while EVERYONE will agree that he needed a passport to return to Ghana, you ought to stop making the false assumption that Mr Amoateng had applied for passport and had been denied. Nowhere in the article was it mentioned that he applied for a Ghanaian passport and was denied. In fact this case his huge and prior to his deportation to Ghana, the US officials would ALMOST CERTAINLY ASK him if he had means of leaving the US, and he said YES. The only reason he used a backdoor passport is that he wanted to sneak into the country as a hero instead of a vilian. This was a high profile case and all he nad to do was to call the Ghana embassy to arrange for a passport. If that was done and the Ghana embassy in the US provided the passport, he would never had been accused of a fraudulent passport deal.

Eric Amoateng is out but may be his criminal demeanor remains. If he got his passport through fraudulent paper work then he is still a dangerous drug baron.Party fanaticism must be separated from crime related issues whether he belongs to NDC, NPP or whatever party. Crime and emotionalism should be separated!!I can understand his philanthropic leanings, but a generous criminal is still a criminal. He should face the consequences of his actions. He may be now a hardened drug baron ready to help the NPP who see no problem just because he is a die-hard NPP financier!!I do not support any Ghanaian party currently because it seems Africans are incapable of ruling themselves!!

Why is the media wasting our time with this piece of news? Amoateng, a disgraced politician and Ghanaian, after having being caught peddling in drugs, was jailed and has been released/deported to his land of birth. He is a disgrace to the NPP, and Ghana as a whole. He should not be making headlines. Those who were at the airport to welcome him, must be ashamed of themselves. Since when do we celebrate criminals and drug peddlers?? His family should be ashamed of themselves. My advice to them - stay out of the limelight and keep a low profile. We are fed up with the likes of Amoateng! Enough.
Thank you!
