It is by time Ghana leaders think and make good use of what they learned from school. What were these leaders thinking, when they decided to bring indians into the country to teach us high-tech farming. Wouldn't it be more sensible to send people there to lean and come back to teach the rest of the people here?
Sukhbir stated that the state government could facilitate farmers to settle down in Ghana in 20,000 to 25,000 acres initially. This is foolish. Did he think about the possibility of creating a new township full of Indians and will grow up in poulation over our own people.
Crazy ideas, this is somebody's personal interest.

you,mr Wali is equally as foolish as that Ghanaian minister.
To give rich agricultural lands, 20-25 thousand acres to foreigners to settle on is the most absurd, foolish, stupid and block-headed decision ever taken by any politician in this modern age.
Remember South Africa and the settlements of the rich farmlands by the white settlers. Remember Zimbabwe and the white settlers on the rich good arable lands and the problems that followed.
Why should people no other than Indians, whose standard of living is no higher than Ghana, apart from strides they have made in industrialising their country to become a rising economic force, the same position Ghana is trying to achieve. Why can't we depend on ourselves in certain areas, like agriculture, where we can rely 100% on ourselves with encouragement and input from the central government to build a strong agro-economy capable of supporting feeding the people, for export and to feed any agro-based processing industries.
These Indians are coming and making millions of dollars profit for themselves and taking the money into India, using local Ghanaians as slaves workers, in their homes and on the fields.
If we have people like this foolish minister and you mr Wali, one day, not very long Bokina Faso will come and occupy our land and rule us because those have been put there to work to develop the country are stupid and have nothing better in the block headsto come up with something better, always with cup in hand begging, for foreigners to come and settle on rich Ghanaian land. TO DO WHAT? MR MINISTER? CAN'T YOU REASON RIGHT?

Ghanaian are not lazy but we are not also know for hard work. Farming in Ghana is very difficult as the government has not plans in place to help the farm in relation to farm equipment's so if the Indians can come in with the equipment to help ghahaian, I don't object to that. I even believe they will hired some Ghanaians. it all depends on what and how the contract is written.

I beg to differ that Ghanaians are not known for hard work. We fed ourselves for centuries without Punjabi farmers and as far as I know, farming has not gotten any harder compared to 50 or 100 years ago. If we could do the hard work then to feed ourselves, I am sure we can do it now.
You cited some of the problems and I agree that there are a lot of problems facing farming in Ghana. However, we need the right prescription for the problems.
You don't give malaria medication to a person suffering from diabetes. If you do, they will never get well!! That is the problem with the minister's Punjabi prescription.

NOW WE ARE IMPORTING FARMERS FROM INDIA,WHO ARE RUNNING FROM THEIR COUNTRY,FOR POVERTY,HUNGER,OVER POPULATION AND TOTAL FRUSTRATION SAKE.
No one can save GHANA,but ourselves.
We need to renew our minds and think of doing the right thing.
Do we have agriculturists in GHANA?
Where are they,and why INDIAN'S?
China, their professor said, two days ago,can feed the 27% of the whole world population, out of their 7% arable land they farm on.
GHANA,SUCH A TINY NATION IMPORTS FOOD,WHILST OUR ARABLE LAND LAYS BARE.
Is it laziness or what?
Why not allocating these lands to Ghanaians to farm themselves, but INDIAN FARMERS FROM PUNJAB?
Indians are not consistent at all.
We live with them in CANADA,and therefore know them, very well.
They are very CORRUPT TOO.

The Punjabi caste are either Muslim or Sikh and practise ancestor worship or worship of Shiva or Buddhism. Others are Islamic or Sikh. This invite is not normal. They have more land than us. The only way this is happening is that someone has invited a private financial scheme on condition that we allow some rich Punjabs to bring in their own to come in and do the farming according to their ways and standards. There is money behind this. A serious bribe.

It is somewhat bewildering that a deputy minister of energy is the one espousing this idea instead of someone from the agriculture ministry. Needless to say, he is probably way over his head.
Instead of continually coming up with these adhoc ideas, we need a comprehensive multi-year agriculture development plan that sets clear targets and a road map to achieve them.
There was a good reason why Kwame Nkrumah created the Agriculture Development Bank. How much of the bank's lending actually goes to farmers? How much of other banks lending goes to agriculture? This is a huge issue because our farmers cannot access credit to undertake modern agriculture.
For once let us do the right thing and tackle the agriculture challenge in a comprehensive way. And please, please, if these government functionaries have nothing sensible to say, then they should do us all a favor and shut up.
